Anybody out there applying to the UT Austin AEMSN program for summer 2012? Haven't seen any posts about our group of hopefuls yet.
All I know is that we'll be meeting with 1 person who is the Nursing School Graduate adviser. So yeah, I'd say this is pretty important. There are 30 slots but actually, a total of 16 people got invited/signed up from what I've seen on my last count. I was told that it'll be 20 min long. Unfortunately, I don't live in Austin but phone interviews are granted to those who live out of town. Now that I think about it, I don't think they'll set extra time aside just to interview people for "undeclares." I think this interview is for those who applied to the most competitive programs and thus, they are possibly determining the final cut. Like I said, there's only 6 spots for Psych NP (which is totally freaking me out). This might explain why not everyone who applied to the other different programs were called back.
Thanks for the advice out there guys! I hope I get to meet y'all in June too! :)
LizHope- so I had my phone interview with the graduate school adviser today. From what I was told, this interview is for the very qualified and competitive candidates to determine the "undeclares." Not sure about your program but I was told that for psych, about 26 people applied for only FOUR spots. Anyways, those 4 spots have been filled and this "interview" was to see if candidates were still interested in coming to UT but having to specialize in something else. Honestly, it didn't feel like an interview- really more of an informative phone conversation as to letting us know what was going on in the decision making process. She didn't ask me any questions and if anything, I was the one who asked the questions. Right now, they are determining what candidates are interested in coming into the school as undeclared. She's interviewing 16 people. There's 10 spots for the undeclares and the rest will be in the waiting list but she said not to worry if you are in the wait list because last year, those who were in the wait list got in. So overall, getting the 2nd interview is actually good news- depending on how you see it because either way, it means we'll be admitted if we choose to go! :)
ps..let me know how your interview goes. Are you going Friday afternoon? I think Child Health turned competitive this year then if you are doing this 2nd interview too.
your welcome! I hope it works out for the both of us too! Yes I was a little bum that I didn't get into the Psych NP program but now that I think about it, I think it's good to just get our foot into the door. I can always do a Post-masters program for NP. Besides, getting into a really good and reputable nursing program itself is tough these days so I guess be thankful for what you can get!

Just plan. Be ready for the 2nd interview, even more than the first. Arrive early. Show them you want this. Maybe there are new faces there and they want to meet you. Look up some possible questions and think about (or practice) some responses - but don't sound like you reheorificed. Stick to your guns about what you will not compromise about, but let them know if you will give in in other areas. This may be why they called you back ("undeclared"). Did anyone else get a 2nd interview? I didn't, but with 30 spaces, surely others did. All you can do is your best. Do as much preparation as you can so that you can feel as confident as possible. You want to leave there knowing you did all you can do, and with no regrets.
Do you know who will be present? Look them up so you know who they are. Is there anyone to contact to find out? I think that is a reasonable question to ask who will be there.
I really hope that everyone that has been responding on this forum gets in. I would love to meet each of you in June! When did you sign up for?
