Anybody out there applying to the UT Austin AEMSN program for summer 2012? Haven't seen any posts about our group of hopefuls yet.
Me, too. Tired of waiting. Since we turned in our applications a month earlier than last year's applicants, shouldn't we know earlier, too? I guess we should just forget about it until next month. Hard to do though.
Say, since we lost some of our posts...there was someone who responded saying she/he finally got an invitation for an interview (later than most) and was asking for advice. How did it go??
Is there anyone out there who did not get an invite (are they still doing interviews)?
I am already picturing my future life as though I've been accepted. I'll be crushed if I'm not. I did not apply anywhere else because this will be the ideal scenario for me. I don't have the option to move anywhere since my family is settled here, so I need to be in the Austin area. I know we can't all be accepted, but hopefully those of us that are on this site have enough interest to be among the lucky ones. Smile!
Yeah I know how you feel...I live in Austin and so does my family and this is the only school I've applied to so if I don't get it I guess I'll have to figure out plan B.
Even if you don't get in, I wouldn't feel too bad. You really have to be masochistic to sail through this program (or at least the foundation year).
If you don't get in, think of it as an added year to prep in advance for nursing school, and then re-apply.
Hi guys,
My interview for the Mental Health nurse practitioner program was a week ago. I think it went very well. I drove all the way from Houston (3 hours long) and it was a 30 minute meeting and the NP who interviewed me was really nice and seemed like she liked my responses to her questions. Anyways, for this program, I believe I counted 25 people who they interviewed and they have only 6 spots this year--eek!
I'm in the same boat as you- acbs and LizHope..I only applied to Austin too. I really like this school and I hope that it works out or that it's meant to be and I'll get accepted. I'm not from TX but I've lived here for a few years now and I can see myself reaching my long term goals in this state. I even told them that in my interview so I'm hoping they'll grant my wish :)
I was told that I'll find out by mid February of their decision. So yes, I'm getting impatient too! Is there anyone else out there that applied for the mental health program?
AH! I can't wait to find out. When I interviewed, the professors said that there will be a admissions committee meeting mid-January to make decisions. The professors said they would not be at that meeting because they are doing some sort of double-blind process to reduce bias and look at things more objectively, which I thought was pretty interesting. So maybe, just maybeeee, they said mid-February just as a buffer and we will find out sooner than that. This is the only nursing program I applied to because like you guys said, its kind of perfect. And plus, I would certainly not mind being in Austin for another few years :) It will definitely be difficult to get a rejection...but everything happens for a reason!
Samian, do you have an idea of how many Public Health students there are in your year?

Hi Everyone,
I spoke to someone on Monday who called me for an interview. During the conversation she said that she had also emailed me. I am quite certain that I did not receive an email, so perhaps a misunderstanding there. Anyway, LizHope, she told me that it would be a quick in-and-out meeting, a few questions, show me around, and that's it. She said a few times that it would be quick. She also said that they are coming up on some deadlines. I am sure their schedules are jam packed and they are dealing with many applicants. I think for some of us it is possible that they have already made up their minds and the interview is simply something that they have to do. Not sure but that is my take on it. I am not really looking at it as a bad thing or a good thing, just the way it is. We can't worry about all that!
I hope everyone did well on their grades for the fall. I am crossing my fingers for all of us. My (short) interview is on Thursday. I'll let you know if I learn anything new.
