AE MSN at UT Austin Summer 2012

Published

Anybody out there applying to the UT Austin AEMSN program for summer 2012? Haven't seen any posts about our group of hopefuls yet.

KN4321-yep it's true. The 2nd interview was for people who apparently applied to the most competitive tracts. I guess this year, it was the Child Health and Psych NP programs. I applied for the Psych NP and was told that 26 people applied for only 4 spots. Still a little bummed that I didn't get into this track but we'll see what comes next. Anyways, like LizHope said, it wasn't really an interview- more of an informative conversation to let the candidates know what was going on. Basically they wanted to know if candidates were still interested in coming to the school as "undeclares" and if not, it would be a way for them to eliminate uninterested candidates and give the spots to people who really want it. That's weird...were you not expecting a call? You seem surprise about the 2nd interview. I was notified last week about scheduling for this 2nd interview this week. I'm hoping that they are done interviewing and will give us their decisions by next week.

**crossing fingers**

oh and from what I gather, the adviser told me that this interview was to determine who will be admitted as undeclared and who will be on the wait list..so it's not a flat out rejection. She says she'll rank us all AGAIN to determine who will get in so we still have a chance. Just depends when and how many people they are able to get out of the wait list.

orchidgal26-- I was surprised! I am out of state and have to do over the phone interview, maybe this is why I heard late? Time is much more flexible if you don't have to go into the university. Have you been doing over the phone interviews?

Do you know how they determine who comes in as undeclared and who is on wait list if they don't give an interview, just more of an informative meeting? Was your meeting with Dr. Taxis?

THANKS, you guys are great!

Yes we met with dr taxis. There were a few phone interviews. They'll prob just rank us on our grades and everything again :/

Well from reading this forum, it seems as though everyone who had a second interview at least gets on the wait list (and all of the applicants on the wait list got in last year) so it seems like this could be positive.

Let me know if you want me to ask her any new question you have before Monday

Hi KN4321- for the first interview, I drove to Austin since I figured that a 6 hour drive back and forth would be worth it. For the 2nd interview, it was soooo last minute that I had to opt for phone. Since you are talking to her on Monday, can you ask Dr. Taxis how will she rank the candidates?? And for the ones that get on the waitlist, will there be a gurantee that they'll get off?

wow..out of state? what state are you coming from? Did you come to Austin for your first interview?

Orchidgal, there's now only 15 people on the google doc. Maybe somebody declined and so they needed another person to interview? Maybe that's why they called you KN

So I just took a peek at last years UT AE MSN thread for the class coming in for 2011. I guess 16 is their magic number and they are doing it again. They did the same thing last year where they held 2nd interviews for the 'undecided' candidates..then admitted 11 whereas 5 will be waitlisted. hehe..i hope that our thread this year will be very informative to to candidates next year ;)

I swear orchidgal if we both get in we need to celebrate! That thread gives me hope. I just hope 5 people who are accepted decide to accept elsewhere lol

yes..let's keep our fingers cross and think positive! Are you from Austin LizHope? I went to visit Austin for my first interview and that was it. What's the city and people like overall? Is it expensive to live there?

Yes I am I went to UT undergrad. Where are you from? The city and people are nice and there's a lot to do here.... But i feel like it does cater to a certain crowd. Lots of hipsters, and it seems like half the population has tattoos. Definitely a fresh young vibe to the city if that makes sense.... Lots of cool local businesses and an emphasis on eco friendly stuff. The traffic is getting worse though with so many people moving here and I think Austin is actually way sketchier than it was ten years ago. In fact, there is a killer on the loose who murdered a girl on new years in a totally safe neighborhood about 2 doors down from where I was staying! He's attacked other girls and stalked them so he's def a sociopath. Anyway lol... It's expensive here but not TOO expensive. Other cities tend to pay better. Rent close to campus can be fairly expensive but you can find better deals a few miles away. ummm...I think Austin is kind of seen as an eccentric hippie city, but there really is something for everyone here. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting a little tired of the city but I still don't want to move away and I can see myself happy here longterm and that's saying a lot!

Sorry if that was a vague answer...

lol..yeah I heard the same thing too about Austin being a more hippie city. My friend went there for undergrad and she basically said Austin is a little blue dot in this big red state..lol. I'm actually from CO so I'll be familiar with the whole hippie area but I've lived in Houston for a few years and I was in total shock how different Austin is compared to Houston. I felt like I was in a total different state when I went to Austin. Well, if it works out for us LizHope, we'll definitely be doing some celebrating. I think it will..11 spots out of 16 are really good odds!
