Just wanted some opinions on this to know if I'm over reacting. I work dayshift and the nightshirt nurses are always late. I've informed my DON several months ago but it still cont's which means I have to stay late until they arrive to work but the nightshirt nurses always leave on time because we have adequate staff. My question to you all is......the other morning in our meeting I brought it up in front of several day and nightshirt nurses along with our HSA who is the number one person in our medical department. One nurse who is late every night got very angry and called me a ghetto snitch and had to be escorted out of the room by the HSA. She also looked as though she wanted to come at me in an aggressive manner. I let it go but the more I've thought about it the more upset I get because I was told by my HSA just to avoid her when she comes in and the only reason she got mad was she knew I was right. I think she should be fired.

At my hospital, there is an incentive pay if you don't call out and have no tardies. It's an extra $200 per paycheck for full time employees. However, you can't even be a minute late or it's gone. Works well:) we have a timeclock so there is no question of when you got there(as long as you don't forget to clock in.)

I'm night shift and am always on time and immediately ready to receive report. And have problems with oncoming nurses who want to chat with everyone, get coffee, or read the charts for 30 minutes before receiving report. This can be a problem on every shift.

And where is this job where I can sleep at night? I ran all night last night!

I've known some nursing homes to offer PTO incentives to staff with perfect attendance records. Some staff really strived to achieve that benefit.

Never been a fan of perfect attendance awards whether at school or work. There are some people who will come in when they shouldn't and infect others.

Whatever happens, I would absolutely fill out an incident report, so there is a paper trail.
