O.K. I have a question for all and if it's been asked in the past or if I'm posting in the wrong forum I apologize. I'm new here, currently a student set to graduate in May. (hooray!)
IN any case, if you could give 1 piece of advice to new grads just starting out - what would it be? Has there been any one thing that someone passed along to you, that you keep in your heart every day that you feel keeps you motivated? Helps you do a better job, etc?
Looking forward to hearing from all. :)
Get into a new grad program right out of school...and thank me later.
Hi these are all great - I'll share them with my classmates who will be graduating with me. And as someone else said "keep them coming!"
When you say new grad program, are you talking about just a normal training program or an internship like program or something entirely different? I wasn't sure :imbar and would like to know.
Thanks!
Remember that male nurses like cheeseburgers and coffee. Regularly providing us with cheeseburgers and coffee is not only the smart thing - it's the decent thing to do.
I am going to go out on a limb and make the assumption that you are a male nurse who likes cheesburgers and coffee? How is that for assessment skills?

On your nurse's brain make two columns, one for things you need to do and one for things that your patient report to you, next to each put a box. Once you do the item check the box then when you document the intervention draw a line through it. At the end of the day all items should have a check make in the box and a line drawn through it. Also use different colored pens to note it a particlular item is priority.

Be willing to help anyone with anything. Even if you have never seen it before, or the patient is not the one you are assigned to. You will be able to learn many new things this way.
Ask many questions..... the only stupid question is the one you dont ask.
Learn something new everyday.
