Advice - Graduating Aug 08 and relocating

Published

I am currently in an Accelerated BSN program at the University of Central Florida and graduating in August of 2008. I am originally from Massachusetts and my husband and I plan to move back upon graduation. I plan to take the NCLEX in Massachusetts.

Currently I'm working as an Advanced Clinical Technician (nurse tech) at Orlando Regional Medical Center while in school.

Any suggestions as to when I should start contacting the hospitals up north to apply and which hospitals have Graduate Nurse (GN) programs in or around Boston? Has anyone else transferred to MA right after graduation?

And... how much does GPA factor into getting a job? I have only received one B so far but the students down here seem to think that grades don't matter as long as you pass, is this true?

Thanks for your help!

I also plan to move back to Mass. after I graduate from my ADN program but I plan on taking my boards here in KY and then get my license endorsed. At the moment I am trying to figure out the right person to email up there about whether or not my education meets Ma. requirements. Does Mass. accept any online RN-BSN programs such as Excelsior, Grand Canyon, or anything like that?

Yes MA accepts at least excelsior, that's how I did my LPN to RN.

Thanks. do you know of any other online programs Mass accepts. I tried doing some research but the Mass board of nursing site is frustrating.

Congratulations! KJ. Do you have any tips you would be able to share please? I'm a May new grad who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.6+ GPA and several honors, plus PCA experience and haven't had any luck finding a job whatsoever. I really hoped academic excellence would count for something but so far for me it hasn't helped a bit.

Have you tried North Shore Medical Center and do you put down you are willing to work all shifts?

Alex that was in my top three choices to work. I interviewed for a maternity position but the manager sees me more as a critical care nurse (and she's right, I want to work in the NICU). I have completely opened my availability - day, eves, nights. I would LOVE to work there.

Interesting that the OP never came back to share where these opportunities exist.
