Advice on comfortable shoes

Hi everyone,

I need advice on what are the most comfortable and long lasting shoes for general floor nurses? I live in Columbia, South Carolina.

When I use the "search" bar in the upper right corner, I've found I have to scroll down to get to the AN threads - there are typically advertising sites on the top of the list.

Lots of threads under the "Nurses" tab, then scroll down to the section on gear etc.

My $0.02 on your question - I alternate between Danskos and Merrell. Sketchers with memory foam don't work for me. I've also found good socks make a HUGE difference.

Now for the socks - what socks are you speaking of, compression socks? If not, can you please give me details of the socks you wear. Now I feel like a single white female haha.

I have high arches and need a lot of support. Kurus work great for me. They are pricey though at about $140 per pair. Worth every penny though!

I wear Brooks PureFlow running shoes. I wear my "retired" running shoes as work shoes when I get 300 running miles on them.

I'm a bit of a sneakerhead so when I first started working as an RN, I thought I could wear the most comfortable sneakers I have (Adidas Ultraboost III). My legs ached so much the following day! A couple of veteran nurses advised me to try Danskos (which I swore I wouldn't wear for what I thought were lack of aesthetics :-D ). But, lo and behold, no leg pain, no foot pain, no back pain. Really awesome support for me. I've worn the same pair for two years now. I use their Pro line. Love that they're easy to wipe clean, too!

When I was working as a supervisor I walked miles everyday. The best shoes I found were Sketchers.

I alternate between dansko pro xp and running sneakers. I also wear compression stockings everyday.

Brooks adrenaline. I have wide feet but they've served me well for about a year now and my feet and my body are as happy as ever.

I love my Rykas. Crocs are ugly but comfortable. Danskos did not work for me.

My favorite shoes were Dansko clogs. This opinion comes from an RN with 20 years of acute care experience.
