Not an Aussie nor an Englishwoman here, BUT have read the aussie/english posts regarding UK jobs. Not a pleasant prospect at the moment. Strikes, firings, terrible work ratios and pay rates. Private sector seems only good choice at the moment in the UK.
Good luck!:welcome:

Did you post this in the international forum? There's a subforum for UK nurses, you might have better luck getting answers there.

jobs are really hard at the moment and to be honest will be a case once living in the UK is join with everyone else and keep applying. Check out the UK forum plenty of info there on current issues. A lot of hospitals are suffering with financial difficulties and jobs are getting less and less with staff including medical staff being laid off and also restrictions using agency staff. Would also suggest checking out the nursing times website free to join and advertise jobs http://www.nursingtimes.net
Where abouts are you looking to live in the UK?

It depends very much on where you work and what speciality you are in, I know iin places in england there is a complete ban on recrutment but in Wales we are still replacing staff that leave. Not sure about the rest of the UK.
As far as what Nurse angel mentioned, no things in the UK are not brilliant but as far as I know there have been no nursing strikes and yes there are redundencies in some areas. As for pay rates it is comparible again to where you live, if you are going to live in London on a band 5 nurses wage with the cost of living there then you will struggle, but I live in a rural area house prices are not too bad and I actually like what I am being paid and personally think it's a good wage. Obviously in comparrison to some other countries it may be considered as not good but i only have my own experience to go on.
Starting wage for a band 5 is £19,000 and it goes up to £24,000 which I think equates to 41,083.92 - 58,009.47 Australian dollars
(or 33,922.48 - 47,894.39 american dollars) this is the lowest band of qualified nurse. I am a Nurse manager and my salary scale is £27,000 - £36,000 (65 - 87,036.81 austrailian dollars)
hope this helps
