Hello there!

Some research has led me here. I really hope I can get some answers to help me out. So here is my story. I am currently and LVN (14yrs) in the state of TX. I graduated RN school back in 2007. I got into some trouble (someone I was giving a ride to had drugs in their pocket and I was charged as well, charges were dropped after going to court) with the board of nursing when I graduated and was placed on probation for 2 yrs with stipulations. But it took the BON 3 1/2 yrs to investigate my case. So by the time I was allowed to sit for my NCLEX here in Texas I only had a little less than 6 months to take my boards. So I did some studying not near enough and went to sit for my boards and I didnt pass it. In the mean time some other stuff came up with my mom and I wasnt able to take them again. So I ran out of time. The BON is telling me I need to repeat the program in order for me to be able to take the NCLEX again. Then just the other day an RN was telling me that I could go to another state and sit for my boards. Does anyone know if that is true or not. I really dont want to have to repeat RN school again. So I am looking for anyway in which I dont have to. Just trying to figure all this out before Oct which is when the next RN program starts here. Please is there anyone out there that can help me? Feel free to ask the admins to move this to general nursing discussion. We had a poster who asked the same question about taking the NCLEX and a state BON stating that she needed to retake nursing school over as well. Good luck!

Having to repeat the entirely of nursing school seems too stringent. (One time in nursing school is more than enough!)

Would Texas let you retake the NCLEX-RN if you were to take a refresher course, which is usually just a few months or so? I know of one RN who took and passed her boards 20-some years ago, but stayed at home with her children. She maintained her license all those years and now that the kids are grown, she just recently entered the workforce after taking a nursing refresher course.

I've read that some states require graduate nurses, who have been unsuccessful on the NCLEX a certain number of times, to take a refresher course after a certain number of attempts, but I've never heard of a BON requiring a complete redo of the nursing program.

This is entirely state dependent and yes there are states that require a candidate to repeat school outside of a certain time period usually around 4-5 years. the difference with the RN you know is that she already passed boards and was a RN.
