I applied for both the Traditional BSN program as well as the Accelerated Track program at UMSL for the upcoming semesters of 2008, and I was curious if anyone else on here has as well....I am anxiously awaiting a letter regarding rejection or acceptance...the advisor I talked to told me "I had nothing to worry about", but its hard not to worry when I was also told they are only accepting 30-40 for the Traditional program, and about 40 for the Accelerated program. Also, there are at least 110 applicants for the Traditional program and at least 70 for the Accelerated program...I keep running the numbers through my head and stressing out! I have a 3.8 in my science pre-requisites (Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Microbiology, and Chemistry)...and overall I have a 3.53, so I'm not so sure thats good enough!
Anyone?? hah

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I got into UMSL with around the same GPA and a slightly lower science GPA back in the winter 2005 semester. And unless they changed things, we had WAY more than 40 students in our class (traditional) - more like 50ish. If you look on the website for Missouri Division of Professional Registration, UMSL is approved for 3 classes per year, each with 100 students: http://pr.mo.gov/boards/nursing/passrates.pdf I know that doesn't mean that they accept that many each time around, but just illustrating that they will probably let more than 40 students in and you have a very decent shot at getting in to either one with your GPA.
Keep us posted.

I also applied for the accelerated program and was told I had nothing to worry about. I think my overall GPA might be slightly higher but my sciences are lower. Have you got a letter yet? I was told student applying for the accelerated should know by the first week in March whether or not they got it. I still haven't gotten mine. Its driving me nuts. I just want to know one way or the other.
Oh it is SO nice to finally hear from someone that has applied!! THANK YOU! haha Sorry, it's just I was nervous no one had stepped up and said they applied for this coming year....no I have not gotten any letter yet. I was told for the Traditional program we should know by the first week of March also! I had no idea about the Accelerated program!!! If you don't mind me asking, what is your overall GPA (You don't have to tell me if that's a private matter:) ) I'm just worried my essay wasn't that great. I don't know why, but I have a feeling we'll be getting the letter soon!!! Good luck. Let me know when you get your letter, and I will do the same!!!! :) Thanks for responding!!! Have a good day (and let's hope the snow isn't too crazy...haha)
my overall GPA is 3.49. when i was talking to a nursing counselor about my chances of getting in she said she had never seen anyone with my GPA not get in. Obviously she could not guarantee that I would get in but she made it seem like it was probable. Now I am really nervous because I figured if I didn't get in I would apply for the Fall semester as well but I didn't realize that application deadline has already passed. Shoot. Now I really need to get in or I am going to be screwed and wont be able to apply until the Spring semester. Ugh, even more worries added. I hope she was right about us being competitive canidates. Good luck to you. I will let you know when I get my letter, let me know when you get yours.
one more thing about the essay, i got the impression that the essay did not have as much influence and all they were looking for was that you can show you know how to gather your thoughts coherently, know sentence structure/grammar, you've thought a little bit about what you want to do as a nurse and can write a decent paper. i wouldnt be too worried about the essay. i was told the main things they look at are the overall and science GPA and as long as you dont doof the essay and referrals you should be good. hope that helps
Oh good, that makes me feel a little bit better :)...you see, when I talked to one of the advisors back in January, I was only applying to the Traditional program. She told me that I should have no problem getting into the regular program...and in fact pushed me to try for the Accelerated program as well since my overall GPA is at 3.53. This was exactly a week before the applcations were due...so at first I was not going to apply. But then, I thought about how it would be nice to have better chances by applying to two programs instead of one, and just had to scramble together an essay and find two of my old professors who did not only mind writing my letters of recommendation, but also didn't mind that I was making them do them in basically a days worth of time...because I was concerned that they wouldn't have them finished and mailed in by Feb. 1st. Thankfully both were very nice to me and did it just in time! It's so nice to talk to someone else waiting to hear from UMSL. Where do you go to college currently? I go to St. Louis Community College-Meramec! I'm sure we'll be hearing something soon from UMSL...GOOD LUCK TO US !!! :) :chrs:
Right not I am not in college. I am a military wife and right now I am living in Germany so college isn't really an option since I don't speak German. Plus I am finished with my prereqs, I was just waiting for the right time to start my clinicals. The schedule for the accelerated program this year is literally perfect for my life right now so I really hope I get in. I did my prereqs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and some at UMSL as well. Have you finished all your prereqs already or is this your last semester of them?
Oh wow, in Germany?! How exciting. How's it going over there? I took five years of German, but never found the opportunity to travel there...someday maybe I will though! :) Yeah, I'm in my last semester of pre-requisites...boring classes such as statistics, nutrition, bio-medical ethics (which isn't all that boring actually), and interpersonal communication. I finished up the main science pre-requisites last semester. It's a game of waiting....I'm off to my ethics class now, but by the time I get back, the mail should be here!! Who knows...!!
