adjustment of status and visa screen

I recently received my eligibility letter from the CA BON. Since I'm rostered to take the CGFNS this November, a friend of mine who is already in the US advised me to take the english exam in the US and just applyfor visa screen while I'm still here. I was planning to take the english exam this December and eventually take the NCLEX in January. Do I need to have my visa screen certificate at hand when my employer will file for an adjustment of status? Is it ok to take the english exam in the US and just apply for visa screen while I'm still here? :uhoh21:

visa screen can take up to 4 months to be processed and if I remember right this has been brought up before and Suzanne suggested getting it done before AOS as you need the certificate for your interview and that could take less than 4 months

If I pass the english this December and the results of the CGFNS exam will be released after 6 weeks, I'll be expecting my visa screen certificate around April 2006. So I have to wait for my visa screen certificate before I go and take the NCLEX. A friend of mine read in another nursing forum that a foreign nurse received her visa screen ceritficate after two weeks since she was CG certified already. Is this true? Will it speed up the process if you're already certified by CGFNS? :o

nothing is done until the ichp have received all the said requirements..so if u have paid your application for VSC(enclosed with diploma, 3 signed pictures and etc, requests forms from schools and licensing agency are forwarded)....then just concentrate on passing your cgfns and ielts. once you have passed, request ielts to forward it to ichp,...as long as every papers/documents needed are with them, then i guess, we wont have any problem, just have to wait....it doesn't matter whether you take cgfns and ielts or nclex and ielts, what matter is that the results are forwarded to them...:) waiting time?..maybe 4 months but i guess it depends on the volume...so the early the documents they receive the better....:) ms suzanne correct me if i'm wrong..ty...

visa screen is given with passing either cgfns or nclex you don't need to pass both. I would just concentrate on passing your english exams :)

I'll begin my review for IELTS after the CGFNS exam. :)

This is the reason why Suzanne advises to pass your VSC application (and transcripts)early. Eventhough you haven't pass either the CGFNS or NCLEX exam or even the english exams your transcripts will be evaluated already. (w/c takes on the ave. 4 mos)

That is why if one was already "CG certified" like your friend (meaning.. his transcripts were already evaluated) all he needs is to pass the IELTS and CG/NCLEX exam and they will print the certificate and mail it to him.

But if one passes the VSC application together with the IELTS and CG/NCLEX exam then that's only the time you start counting from 0-4 mos ave.

If you pass your VSC application (ofcourse with transcripts and the fee) NOW while reviewing for your NCLEX exam and IELTS exam then you get things rolling and by the time you pass both necessary qualifying exams and send it to CG/ICHP your transcripts were already evaluated. All they have to do is print it (cetificate) and send it to you. just my two cents. hope it makes sense. :)

As long as you have documented proof of passing the English exam, that will actually suffice while waiting for the actual Visa Screen Certificate.

Your biggest issue is that you will not get a letter with a numerical score form CGFNS until about six to eight weeks after the exam, pass and no pass is availalbe about five weeks after the exam. And you need the letter before any processing can be started. California will take you about two weeks or so to get your license, at least count on that. So not sure when you are planning to come over...........I would definitely wait until after you have the CGFNS letter in hand.

I'll be waiting for my CGFNS letter before I leave, maybe around January or February. All I have is the eligibility letter from CA BON since I haven't paid for pearson vue yet. They gave me 1 year to schedule NCLEX, that gives me enough time to review again.

Thanks for all your help!
