Hello,
I am in an acute care program and we are responsible for finding our own clinical sites. I was wondering if anyone that has some experience would be willing to offer some advice on their opinion of the best clinical settings for acute care programs. A little background: I have worked on a cardiac telemetry floor, cardiac ICU, and currently work in a cardiac cath lab so I am interested in doing something cardiac upon graduation but I feel as though it is important to get a well-rounded clinical experience.
I appreciate any input!

If you are looking to be well rounded, then I think hospitalist or intensivist experience would be valuable. Does your ACNP program not have requirements for rotations?
My program required a hospitalist, intensivist, specialty medicine, surgical and an elective.

I went in this order ...hospitalist, medical ICU, pulm ICU, CV ICU, then a combo of heart/lung transplant ICU. I had 7 years experience in the ER as an RN, so I didn't feel the need for ER.

Hospitalist or ER, then non-cardiac specialty floors.
I cannot express how extremely important it is for a future NP to get exposed to areas he or she was NOT exposed as an RN. If, as an RN, you have strong cardiac background, there are good chances you already know a lot about cardio. The problem is, there is a chance you'll end up treating everything under the Sun and then some more, in the most insane combinations. So get on floors you never was before.
Thank you for your input!! No, unfortunately they do not, which can be a positive but it's also frustrating because we don't receive a lot of direction.

ACNP2017 That sounds like an awesome clinical experience. Did you do all of your clinical at the same hospital?
KatieMI,
Thank you! Do you feel like it would be useful for me to do a rotation in the ED even if I do not have an interest in working in that environment when finished?
