Active duty navy fy 2016

Published

Hey guys/gals I'm just wondering if their is anyone applying for this upcoming fy 2016 for direct commission into the navy. I guess I should have mentioned that I was referring to the nurse corps.

Hi Traumasaurus.

When I did mine, my recruiter told me what she wanted and I just followed her lead. You would need to provide everything from your birth cert, SSN card, transcripts, proof of certification, etc.

Then of course, you'll be finger-printed and a comprehensive FBI background check is conducted. In my own case, the background check was followed by a meeting with a fed govt investigator who went over the answers I provided on my questionnaire. The first step will be to contact a recruiter ASAP to start the process. The nursing board at the Navy meets infrequently so this entire process can last anywhere from six months to a year (or even longer).

Good luck.

Finally received my orders today!!

I won't be able to commission until next month because my ODS date is in FY17. So I should wrap it up early October. Thanks to all of you for your input and good luck to those still in the process.

Will your orders tell you what billet you were assigned to (e.g. critical care 1960, ER, etc)? There are a lot of numbers on my order and I'm carefully reading and re-reading it. But so far, I don't see anything related to my specialty code.

The code is on your service record. I looked over and over my orders for something but didn't see the code till I commissioned.

Thanks for the update SKling.

No problem! remind me to fill you on ODS in October and give some hints/tricks since we it's starting this weekend. Congrats!

I will do just that SKling. And good luck at ODS.

Thanks.

I have a question on "mileage":

If I drive to ODS from Atlanta, will I get paid for "mileage"? Or will I only get the current rate if I drove from ODS to my permanent duty station?

Thanks.

Hello, I want to join the navy nurse corps. I'm RN BSN, with med-surg, tele experience for more than 8years. I took a career break to travel the world for 2 years, but I'm looking to get back to working again. My options are to apply to a local hospital or call the navy nurse recruiter to see if I qualify and join the navy as a nurse.

how long does the process take from calling navy nurse recruiter to submitting the application and necessary paperwork, interview and maybe possibly accepted into the nurse corps?

am I better off just applying to my local hospital first, work for a year, then submit my applications for the navy nurse corps during that time when I'm working at the local hospital?

Any thoughts in suggestions? I am hoping to land a job by November 2016. I don't think I can join the navy in that timeframe, that's why I should aim for a job at the local hospital.

what should I do in the meanwhile? Any tips and advice? I should have joined the nurse corps back in 2006 when i graduated because it was so easy then like anywhere else to get a nursing job. Now it's getting better since the financial collapse but still difficult and now quite competitive.

Hi SKling. I hope ODS hasn't been too rough. Don't forget to post about your experience whenever you you're "free" at ODS. I'll be at ODS a day after you graduate. Lasarazen from Allnurses is in the same ODS class as you.

Bye for now.

Hi Wheaties. The application process can take a while. The earlier you start it the better. Talk with a recruiter and get the ball rolling. Good luck.

After being here for 2 weeks, the bestimate advice I can give you is to start studying your gouge sheet right now. get it down before you come. http://www.ocs.navy.mil/docs/ODS%20Smart%20Pack%20SEP%202015.docx

hopefully that works but if not it's under ods program requirements and smart pack. get as many of those down as you can and it'll be a lot easier and less stressful for you. I brought a fewe civilian clothes and we will not be wearing and civilian clothes the whole time we are here. there is a lot of left over gear that is kept here so I would pack light and get what you need when you get here. Bring Nitrile gloves for shoe shining. When doing uniform uniform inspection i got talked to about my fingernails and having black under them. I bought a pillow before I came because I was worried they would all suck (which was confirmed) and brought a blanket. just be grateful you'll be here in the fall/winter. I feel bad for the summer classes. we had 90 degree weather and I for sure thought I was going to die wearing my khakis. for showering make I would recommend something that can hang from the curtain rods so you don't have to put anything onto he floor. bring the dollar shower sandals. you can get those here at the NEX. let me know if you have any specific questions. This is all I can think of at the moment

Good to know you're doing ok SKling and thanks for posting the tip. How bad/intense has PT/PFA been?
