Act

Anybody recently taken the ACT. I'm applying to my local college and they require the NET test and the ACT. The NET test I am not worried about, but the ACT scares me. I do believe this measures your skills/abilities to that of high school seniors. Well, I have been out of school for a very long time. The reading part I'm not worried about, yes, it's the dreaded math that scares me. I have been brushing up, but it's those darn word problems that get me.

your local college should have practise exams/ study guides in their learning lab...give them a call. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Oh, I've got plenty of practice books. Maybe that's the problem. I know I need to apply myself and I will probably do ok, but I wonder how the ACT is weighted as far as getting into the actual program. In other words if I score lower then the recent high school grads, does that put me at the bottom of the totem pole?

What has everyone MADE on the ACT? IF you don't wish to say, that's cool...just thought it would be interesting to compare scores.

Didn't tell me what I scored but, Reading-passed, Writing-passed, Math-Failed:( So now I have to take a remedial math course.

i didn't think the ACT was too bad. i took it as a high school junior and only scored a 19. at that time i had no intentions of ever going to college so i didn't apply myself. then it was just a good reason to skip class for 4 hours. :chuckle

when i applied to my nursing program, we were required to have at least a 22 to get in. so i had to retake the ACT and 2nd time around scored a 27.

the ONLY reason that i did as well as i did was that i ordered the $25 packet supplied by ACT to prepare. had my BIL go over all the practice math questions with me. had it not been for that i don't believe i would have made the 22 much less a 27.

I scored a 27, about 2 years out of high school.

I know I had to have it to get into nursing school, but other than that, it serves no purpose. You just have to get the number you have to get to get in. No employer will ever ask you at an interview "SO, what'd you get on your ACT?"

Thanks everyone for your replies. The ACT is a mandatory prerequisite to get into the local nursing program. They also require you to take the net and placement testing. You can skip the placement testing if you have had advanced math or english. I have been going over the ACT prep book but it is so intimidating. I just lose it when it comes to math word problems. But I will prevail.

I made a 32 when I got out of high school. I made a 32 when I took it again, 20 years later for the nursing program. Math went down the second time, everything else went up. The point is, all ya really gotta do is get the minimum score. Relax. Take a deep breath. Answer the questions you can, guess the rest.

WOW! 32 is a great score. I think the highest you can get is 36.
