Im in Bio 202 & I have to write a paper off a medical journal that has something to do with something we will learn this semester..
I am doing mine on acromegaly & its relation to tumors elsewhere in the body since weve already done the endocrine system & I did really well on the test..
Basically its 25 pages of a partially foreign language to me & there are a couple things I dont understand- How can a tumor in the pancreas as one patient had or in the lungs as another effect the release of Growth Hormone?
It says it causes the release of something called Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH).. We didnt learn about that in class lol..
Also, another part of confusion is how, in the article, it says that "with the oral administration of glucose, the GH levels were insufficiently lowered" So does this mean that glucose can lower GH levels? And if so why dont they just give all gigantism or acromegaly patients some cookies lol?..
Thanks for the help!

Hello, I'm a medical journalist and acromegaly patient. I've just written articles for the British Medical Journal and the UK Independent newspaper about what it's like to have acromegaly, and my long road to diagnosis. You can read it at:

I have also started an online debate about the accuracy of information for acromegaly and pituitary patients. Please register, join in and cast your vote. The link is:

If you have any specific questions, please email me.
Best wishes, Jon
