Accommodation in UK.

I'm still looking into moving back to the UK permanently where I was born.

I wondered how do other nurses move there and organise things like accommodation? Accommodation here in Australia is very expensive, (even caravan parks are a rip off), so I also wondered re the rental market? Can you get help with the bond money, or do you have to go through an agency to organise this? I have had a look on some real estate sites, but not sure where all the jobs are to rent somewhere. Or is it easier staying in B&Bs and how much are these per night/per week?

I really want to leave Australia as I'm not from here and have had enough of the stinking hot summers. It has got to the point where I dread summer, don't go out when it's hot, I sweat so much just walking (no medical reason for this, got it all checked out recently) especially when it's humid, and I just sit inside near the air conditioner on days off. The Dr said some people's bodies just don't cope in the heat when they get older.

I don't like the cold either, but was told by friends who have lived/travelled in UK that everywhere is centrally heated, and once you get walking around you warm up anyway. I've also been told summer/spring in England/Scotland is absolutely breathtaking (hope it wasn't exaggerated!)

Any info however slight, is much appreciated.

Thank you.

A lot will depend on where you plan on living, not all use or require use of an agency. Bond will also vary but when I rented a place before I moved to Canada the bond was a month and half rent as well as month rent as it was a month in advance, we got all the bond back once we handed back and was assessed to make sure there was no damage, any damage payment was taken from the bond

UK is generally central heated these days but again will vary, either gas or electric, not much in the way of coal and wood.

Thanks. I meant to ask can you get help with bond over there from a central housing government organisation? I am a UK citizen and would qualify. If you know the name please let me know.

Thanks.

I don't think you can get help with a bond, I know we couldn't, we had to prove that it was available in the bank, our bank had to confirm once I authorised it that the money was available, once confirmed we got the OK from the rental place and arranged transfer of money and then agreement was signed

Just to add if you haven't lived in the UK for a long time you don't always meet requirements for some things. I know if I go back to the UK for a holiday I have to pay for any treatment I receive unless it is an emergency, same with further education unless I can prove that I have resided in the UK for 3 years I can't get help with fees and have to pay International fees (there may be a few exceptions but none that I have heard of up to now)

I am also a UK citizen

That's true if you have been away for a while you might not be able to get helpas soon as you return, at the moment it is one moths rent and one months deposit. Most agency request reference from your place of work, if you can and if its you alone you could house share, that is about 120 inclusive of council tax a week for a room minimum, and a two bed room house range from 700-900 pounds per month pay own c- tax, one bed room flats 5-7oo. If you know someone here you could visit for a while and weigh your options i think once you are here for 3-6 months you may be able to get a little help. you can get help with your rent from your local council but like silverdragon said you may need to be back for a while. It's best if you come and ask your local citizens advice bereau. They will give you some good leads. If you are a nurse you could come and join an agency assuming you are still on the NMC register and do some shifts agency pays really well, and no ristriction on your shifts. London not bad to live n work. Manhester is ok for living but i heard jobs are hard to find there, but ask some friends if you keep in touch and see what they say. Even if you are a not a nurse alot of hospitals are hiring healthcare assistance money not too bad at present. Like i say agency pays well. hope i was of some help. oh and the weather for the past three years has been very bad between January and February but it is generally cool all year round a little hot spell during may to august, good luck.

The real laugh is that I'm in Calgary where the weather is notorious for changing in a second! Our weather forcasters only seem to predict bad weather accurately!! Although we don't get as much rainfall as the UK & it's not a humid climate.

However, I wouldn't move back to the UK ever!! In reality the weather really doesn't make much difference, if you're happy, you're happy and that's what counts.

I love my house, my neighbourhood, my colleagues the outdoor lifestyle (despite the unpredictable weather) and my kids are really happy. That's what counts way more than what the skies are brewing!!

Sun, really I can't remember what that looks like. In fact I've grown gills and webbed feet in the weather we are getting ;)
