Accidental finger stick

Hello fellow nurses,

im needing some moral support!

i stuck myself with an injection needle the other day and I am so upset.

the patient is low risk and all measures have been taken to deal with this with my employee health.im not really worried about any diseases, but what I'm upset about is that I feel humiliated that I did this. It was simply an accident when I was initiating the safety on the needle I accidentally stuck myself!

ive been a nurse for four years and given many injections. This has never happened!

Im new at my current job and I've only been there for about a month. I just feel so dumb for doing this and I worry that my managers will think less of me! I'm always so careful, I don't know how I could have done this. So upset!!

That's why they call them accidents! It happens to everyone eventually. Safety needles are not 100% foolproof- I've stuck myself with one. Don't beat yourself up over this. Life's too short.

It happens. You should follow up with your Employee Health Department.

Thank you for your comment. I was feeling fatigue when this happened. I know I need to take a break when I start feeling overwhelmed. It happened late in the day after a very busy day. I only mention this because I'm trying to learn from it and not let it happen again.
