Hi! I'd like to start a new thread for those who are planning to go to UCLA in Fall 2011. I've been so excited since I got my letter that I'm trying to be proactive about the enrollment process. I already emailed my acceptance. I just need to finish my taxes so I can complete the Need Access App.
This is a great place to get information regarding the financial aspect of the program:

Is anyone else taking Epidemiology at UCLA in the Summer? I tried looking for a cheaper school but this class is rare, specially for the summer session. If anyone found one, please share!
I'm looking forward to meeting y'all! Please feel free to pm me anytime. I'd like to hear from you!
HI Miko! I have a Master's in Epidemiology so I don't need the prereq haha. I actually loved Epi and that class is really interesting. However, my Physiology/Anatomy class at UCLA only counted for Anatomy so I am taking Physiology again online. I have never done online but figured I would try it out.
I will go to the facebook page too!!
Yay guys and gals! I too live in DTLA and will be taking Epi 50 in the summer. I also am planning to move to the Palms area (great rent prices so I hear!) in early September or late August if I can swing it. I will be all over the Need Access application as soon as I'm done with a midterm for Micro this Thursday evening!
Hi there,
That what I got from her.
"Hi there,
Congratulations again on your offer to the MECN program for Fall 2011! If you are receiving this email, it means that you have responded to the School of Nursing as to whether you plan to enroll, but you have not yet formally accepted or declined your offer through the Graduate Division. Even if you do not plan to enroll, this is a mandatory step because we need to be able to officially offer your place to someone else. Please sign into your account on the Grad Division website http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu to formally accept or decline your offer as soon as possible. If your status has not yet changed, keep checking back over the next few days as sometimes it takes awhile for the paperwork to be processed. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions."
Btw my online status hasn't changed though. When did your status update?
Hi Nadianana,
My status never changed from "Submitted." I did see my acceptance offer after I clicked on Fall-2011m, put in my password, and clicked continue. The letter that showed after was the official offer from the graduate studies office.
I emailed the SON after looking through the "Information You Should Know" page (I was bored and lately when I'm bored, I tried to get more info about MECN). I thought I'd share what I learned. ::)
1.) Background check cost check estimated at $70 but live scans available on ca.gov ranged from $15-25. Does the background check entail anything else?
Please do not do the background check yet. We use a company called American Databank, which we will tell you about at orientation. The cost is generally $65 to $70. A live scan is more thorough than a regular background check, polling data from the FBI and the Department of Justice. You will be required to do a live scan in the future for your public health rotation and another for RN licensure.
2.) As for health screening for the clinicals: how recent do the immunizations, blood titers, TB skin test, and physical exam have to be? What immunizations and blood titers are required? What does the physical exam have to entail?
Since blood titers are drawn after most immunization series, both are good forever. The exception is tetorifice/diphtheria/pertussis. A TB skin test and a physical exam or only good for a year, so it is best to do these as late as possible. If you want to get health screenings done, I would suggest doing the immunizations for MMR and vericella zoster and then doing the titers as these can be expensive. For more details about the health clearance, please contact ____________ (I read we're not supposed to put names. so pm me if you want to know who to contact.)
3.) Do you have a preference on the CPR training provider (AHA or ARC)? Is the certification for BLS for Healthcare Providers?
You must do the CPR training for BLS for Healthcare Providers. I believe both are available through the AHA and the ARC, but please contact _____ to see if she has a preference.
4.) I don't remember it being discussed during the info session. Does the SON have a simulation lab for us to use? If so, is there a link that will give me more information?
We do have a simulation lab, which is being further enhanced this year. We do not have a link for it on our website yet.
Heya,
I checked the grad website for me too, and it still says submitted, and nothing after that yet. I am pretty sure mine hasn't updated because I was accepted off the WL. I got the email from ____ but have not gotten the official hardcopy letter from graduate admissions yet. If anyone else of the WL was able to get in the grad site, let me know.

Congrats lisapett42!!! I'm always in Santa Monica, taking prerequisites at SMC. Will you be taking Epi this summer?
