Accepted

I recently found out that I got accepted into the nursing program!! I start this August and I was wondering what to expect. I'm excited and nervous, I have always been a great student and school has always been relatively easy for me. After reading some of the posts I'm a little worried. Does it really take away all your free time. I even read some posts where people have ruined their marriages over it. I know it will take a lot of my time if I want to know all the material well, which I do. What are some other peoples experiences.

Congratulations for making it in!!!!

I thought about it,and I didn't want it to sound like I thought nursing is easy at all, I just wanted t know what to be prepared for. I"m sorry if I came off the wrong way.

Congratulations on getting accepted! I didn't get the impression that you thought nursing was easy. You were just voicing some concerns. For myself, nursing school (ADN) is much more difficult than pre-reqs were. It's a lot of information to process and I spend a lot of time studying. I think I may have killed too many brain cells in my younger days though :). As far as divorces being caused by nursing school, I believe that if a marriage is rocky any additional stress, not just NS, could send it over the edge. You sound like a confident person and I'll bet you are going to do great.

I feel the same as you. School has always been easy for me. I never studied a day in my life before A+P. Nursing classes are totally different. The material and time frame are very intense. As far as marriages, or any relationship, all I can say is this, as it was told to me by my wise sister: People grow and change. If the relationship is not strong enough to grow and change with it, it breaks.

WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GET ACCEPTED INTO MOM 35:bow:

Have not received my letter yet, was just on here congratulating people. My letter goes out 4/15. But thank you anyways!:wink2:

I got into the Kishwaukee college program in illinois.

Congratulations!! I started last August as well, and one thing I can tell you is that the time FLIES. People kept telling me it would and they were right. Yeah, your social life will suffer. No one I know has divorced yet because of it haha... but I can tell you I've stayed single (by choice, so I won't have to worry about calling some boy when I'm trying to study). You will make some sacrifices and learn to be a morning person on clinical days, but overall I think you'll enjoy it if you enjoy learning. Brace yourself for the craziness!! And you should be proud of yourself for getting in! :D

Well congrats to you for getting in, I remember that feeling. I graduated in December and have been working as a nurse...I just took my boards on Friday and am waiting for my results...very dreadful!!!

Well all I can say is hold on tight...it's gonna be a long ride! Yes your social life, love life, family life, etc etc etc is going to be put on hold for awhile but if it's really what you want it's worth it! You're gonna meet some great people and some not so great people in school but hopefully you'll make some great new friends.

I don't know how old you are??? But nursing school is just like highschool all over again, there are "clicks" and gossip and it can get pretty catty with so many women in one room for 2 years, lol. The work load is...well, you'll see...it's unlike anything else! Not trying to make it sound awful but it kind of is!!! All of my friends and family members that are nurses have all had this very same opinion about it, but who knows your nursing experience could be completely different.

Just do your best to study study study, sleep maybe 3 hours, get up and study some more...lol. It does go by fast though so really try to enjoy it, even all the stress that comes along with it cause once you're an actual nurse...it's ten times worse!!! ha ha

Oh and make sure you take advantage of your clinicals...I know you're gonna be nervous the first time you give a shot, insert a foley, or probably even change the linens on the bed (unless you've worked in healthcare before??) but take advantage of those "I'm just a nursing student" moments...do everything and anything you can, it really helps once you're done!!!

WOW...I just wrote a novel, and to think I just got home from working the 7p-7a shift last night...I don't know where all this energy just came from but I just completely relived my nursing school experience, lol.

Well I wish you the best, you're gonna do great! Always try to stay positive and find the ones that make you laugh in class but also help you stay focused...laughter is definitely the key to getting through it!!!

Going to sleep now =) and hopefully my name will show up on the Florida license page today!!!

Congratulations on getting in! If you are doing a 2 year program, I think you will have only four days/week class and clinical, at least that's what my friends who took a diploma course had.

School is different for each person - I loved it, and I still found time to do most of the things I wanted to, as well as work 24 hours a week as a nurse assistant. Of course, I am not a partyer, so I did not keep late hours!

Also -I would suggest working in a hospital as a CNA if possible - it will put you ahead of the curve.

Specializes in med/surg.

Congratulations on getting accepted!!:yeah:... I did too! I am starting in August as well and share your same concerns! I completed all of my pre-reqs as well as the co-reqs, since they were pre-reqs when I started college almost 6 years ago and the program has since changed... LOL! So I almost think I'll be a little ahead of the curve since my fellow students will be taking other courses along with the actual nursing classes, and I'll be able to focus on JUST the nursing material. So I'm hoping that it comes a little easier than expected and that I am worrying for nothing... although I have also become more and more worried after reading so many posts on this website. Ha ha! Good luck!
