Accepted to LVN should I wait for RN

Published

Hello everyone,

I need a little advice regarding school. I've been waiting a long time to get into a nursing program but it has not happened yet. I've gone to the point of applying to local LVN programs. The local RN programs have long waitlists and some I might not even get accepted because my GPA is not high enough. The question is If I get accepted to the LVN program first, should I go for it, or keep waiting for the RN. Currently I am a CNA at a local hospital, and I love it, however I cannot wait to have a title behind my name.

Any advice is welcomed.

You do have a title behind your name. Please be proud of yourself and the hard work that you do.

Frankly, based upon what you have said in your post, I would concentrate on the LVN program while you are waiting. Better to have an LVN license after several months, than to have nothing but RN school rejection letters, or worse yet, nothing, after several months. Best wishes.

I started as an LPN. I am extremely grateful I went that route. I learned SO MUCH while working as an LPN during RN school (which I did online via Excelsior College.)
