I accepted a full time night position in the NICU at Childrens Hospital Omaha. I start after I finish my present travel contract on dec 15th. I am very excited about this position! The orientation is 2 phases 1st 3 months of class and clinical then work with the feeder growers and intermediate care babies. After 6 to 12 months phase 2 _vents and oscillators.
I have a lot of learning to do and am excited about it. Anybody have suggestions for reading material.
There is a post in the stickies about reading material. I love my Merenstein and Gardner Neonatal Nurse textbook and the textbook from my STABLE class.
It sounds like you are getting a great orientation. Welcome to the NICU.
Agreed on M&G, but it might also be a good idea to see if they are going to want to you buy a specific book. My unit had me buy the AACN Core Curriculum for Neonatal Nurses. I would have bought the Merenstein anyway, because I'm a big nerd, but it's just a thought.
Specializes in PICU, ICU, Transplant, Trauma, Surgical.
Hey bayoubengals - sorry no suggestions I just wanted to say hello and welcome to Omaha! Children's Hospital has a wonderful NICU and I hope you enjoy it there. One of my nursing school classmates works as a care partner there.
