Accepted Into LPN Program- Tips?

Hello,

I posted back in December about considering LPN school. Well, I decided to go for it and I got in! My class starts in August. However, I am a worry wart and stress myself out, so I'm looking for any tips that anyone can give me to pass this program. I decided to go to Bradford Union Technical Center in Starke, FL. The cost of the program is less than other schools in my area and I know an LPN who attended the school and spoke highly of it. Added pressure, I am in the process of receiving assistance with paying for the program from my local Career Source. Therefore, I have to do well in the program. I'm looking for tips on organization, study tips, anything! Thank you so much to all that respond.

My tips are as follows...

1. Figure out how you learn best (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or tactile) and study in a way that supports your unique learning style.

2. Do a little something on a daily basis. Do not procrastinate on studying until the last minute. Avoid cramming.

Good luck to you!

There is a technique called "cognitive realignment," these words are merely a high- falutin way to say you need to replace in your mind's eye the devil on your left shoulder that tells you can't succeed with the angel on your right shoulder that tells you you can. And you can do this with smart, diligent study habits and an earnest desire to learn the things you need to know to become that angel on your right shoulder that encourages others to do well in life also.

By the way, when you do succeed, you will have a unique set of skills that will set you apart from the fray. Always a good thing.

One last thing:

Seek out mentors who understand that "the quality of mercy is not strained"... and you will become the kind of practitioner we should all strive to be.

Thank you for replying. :)

Hi Babyturtle2k11, congrats! be ready to use your prerequisite knowledge in nursing school.

I failed my first go round. I knew the information but didn't know how to apply the information. This time I'm going to join a study group or have somebody I know quiz me or let me teach it to them. I failed the final in second semester because I couldn't answer the scenario questions.

We had prepU we had to do. Don't rush through those and really read the rationales.

Take advantage of the lab hours. The skills checkoffs can be a little intimidating. Practicing over and over has a payoff even if you think you already got it.

I'm so nervous of failing. I'm scared that I'm not smart enough.

That's not true. Schools are very selective so you were one of the top applicants. I only failed because I had ALOT of other stuff going on. Health issues, death in the family, stress. My best advice is to dedicate to it. Don't get caught up with relationship drama etc, because they will be fine while you fail. Be prepared for the fast pace because it moves fast.

Hey I'm in the same boat, I start my LPN program this August as well... I reviewed a lot of YouTube videos on people who take you on their journey through nursing programs by videoing their study materials, tips, school supplies, etc. I found it helpful... Good luck with everything í ½í¸Š

I also start an LVN program in August and am really nervous. This thread helps me not be as scared... thanks for all the tips!

I've watched YouTube videos as well. They do help! And this site has helped tremendously. Thank you again to all who have replied!

Put everything aside! It's very intense, but it'll be worth it all afterwards. Believe it or not, it goes very fast! Biggest thing... don't just memorize, try to really understand what everything means, or you won't know anything. Ask questions, even if you feel they are stupid (no question is stupid). Good luck to you :)

Thank you to the others who have replied! :) Just to update, so far my class is going well. We're doing a lot on the computer in ATI. We are really focusing on skills these first few weeks of class, so the classwork isn't too intense right now. I'm worried for once we really start to get into the book though and for the harder clinicals later on. The skills we are focusing on now are basic nursing skills, like CNA type things. I'm a CNA currently, so I have an advantage there, but as we all know, CNAs don't do things by the book. We start lab next week. I'm trying to focus on the present and not the future, but it's hard!
