Accepted to an ADN and BSN school. Which one to choose?

Hi jtan52, if tuition isn't a big deal I would go straight for bsn. The time frame you gave sounds similar to time most people spend just to get adn. And soon it will be a requirement to have bsn to be an rn, u would have to go back to school anyway for this. Get it done. U won't regret it, good luck to u keep us posted

I'm facing the same indecision, Rio Hondo Fall 09' vs. CSULA Fall 09'.

However, my friend in nursing field suggested going for the 2-year ADN program. He said.....

Handling stress for 2 years is easier

Getting BSN may take longer than you expect (11 quarters for CSULA + the nursing curriculum is a locked step sequence);

You can get the license faster, work and support yourself;

There's no big difference in salary;

It's not hard to get into a BSN program with ADN plus you don't handle the same stress since you have the license already.

Don't know if these are true, I'll keep looking for advice.

Congratulations on getting accepted at two programs! By all means, go to the BSN program. You won't regret getting your BSN out of the way now, at the start of your career. Good luck with school.

Congratulations! If it were me I would pursue the BSN and get it done and out of the way. I also hear that employers prefer BSN degrees. I heard that hospitals are looking for accreditations and part of that requires so many RN's with a BSN vs an ADN. If money issues were a concern then I would pursue the ADN and finish sooner, get a job and work on the BSN through an ADN to BSN program and possibly even have my employer pay for it.

No, BSN is the preferred level of education for professional nursing. Someone who already possesses a bachelor's degree is eligible for accelerated BSN programs. If you have an entry level MSN program available in your area, then that program would be the desirable program. If it has a BSN opt out, you can stop at that level if you want to start working before completing the MSN.

I am an RN with an A.S.N degree. I've worked as an RN for over 25 years. I almost finished my BSN, but had to drop out due to financial and family issues. As far as salary, not much difference. As far as other opportunities, a BSN does provide more! I am seriously considering returning back to school soon to complete my BSN at least!

If finances are not an issue, I'd probably say the BSN program would be a better choice!

i'm sorry i don't have an answer to which is program is better, but i was wondering if you could please tell me your average GPA and exam score for when you applied to CSULA's program.

prereq GPA was a 4.0, overall GPA was a 3.932

I took TEAS 2 days after my final exam and wasn't prepared.

TEAS (National percentile rank)- Reading 87 , English 58 (I'm an international student), Math 99, Science 62.

I wish I had that overall GPA. I would do the BSN in your case. I don't have this option. I completed my BA with a 3.0. I'm still working on prereqs so maybe my only option is a ADN.
