Acceptance, MCC Fall 2015 but would like CEP

Published

This past Friday I received an acceptance letter for the fall 2015 program at MCC. I applied just last year and had a wait time of only two semesters, so it moved quickly. I was anticipating the wait to be over a year and a half so I decided to work towards the CEP. Currently with a full time job with overtime, school is at half time and I lack only two courses after this current semester is finished. Microbiology and Human pathology is all I lack in order to apply for the CEP with ASU or NAU.

I know you can defer the placement for only one semester, but I am not sure I can complete the remainder courses in time to apply for the CEP. I have a decent comprehensive HESI score at 87%, and if I get at least a C” and a B” grade for the remainder two courses I will have a minimum 3.0 gpa for the required courses.

If I start the program now, do I lose the chance to do the CEP program? Am I throwing away my guaranteed acceptance into the nursing program in hopes to do the CEP?

Once you accept the spot you can't apply for cep. That is what I was told at least. And at this point CEP doesn't have a wait list so it is still a guarantee if you apply but it sounds like you wouldn't be ready to apply till February and it is hard to say if there will or won't be a wait list for the CEP.

In order to do cep by spring you would have to ready to apply for cep by this June.

You can always bridge to ASU after completing the AA program with MCC.

I believe I saw on here somewhere that NAU will allow you to start your BSN in the last year of nursing school so that may be something to look into as well.

You will lose your ability to apply to the CEP programs if you accept your spot. If you defer, you would need to be ready to apply by Jun in order to get in for Spring. However, if you accept your spot now, you can start your RN to BSN classes at NAU during your 3rd and 4th block of the nursing program. I am currently in the application process now and am in Block 3. I didnt want to start this semester but I could have. This will shorten your RN-BSN program drastically so you wont have so much to do once you graduate. Gl in whatever you choose.

Not sure if MCC is like Gateway but you can except your placement and apply for the CEP in June for spring 2016. You would start your first NAU class in the fall. For Gateway as long as you are enrolled in your last 2 classes you need and grades are in by August you could apply in June this year. I would take your two classes this summer. Before you needed all your classes done for the CEP but now you can have up to 7 credits in progress when applying.

So, i check the application status page periodically for friend who are interested in nursing to update on wait times. Anyway, I believe I recently saw a post that if you want to apply for CEP but were accepted this placement run, to accept your spot and still go to the application session. Then if you are accepted to just contact the placement number and let them know to withdraw you from the traditional spot you had. But since that notice is not up anymore, you should call the placement center to find out. then you dont risk losing a spot. I could have ben wrong in my prev post so its worth checking out.

Wow, one year only?

I better get on my core classes...

Damn, congrats I think?

...what is CEP?

CEP is the concurrent enrollment program where you do the nursing blocks through Maricopa while simultaneously taking classes for your bachelors degree.

Thank you AZBB.

I got accepted as well although I am planning on doing CEP. I spoke with the hotline and with the adviser on campus and was told to accept my placement, attend the CEP application session, and should I get accepted just let SCC know and they will give up my traditional spot and I will start anew with CEP. It's basically a "cover your butt so you don't wait another year" situation.. because if something goes horrible wrong with the CEP, I'd rather be able to start my AAS than not start anything at all. The adviser told me the only real drag is I will have is I have to sit through the cohort registration twice, otherwise it's pretty much just a head start as far as vaccinations, cpr, etc.

i just finished block 2 and its a bit difficult to balance out your time with school and work if you don't plan on cutting or quitting your job. Just to let you know if your wanting to choose NAU as your CEP school they also allow you to apply after you finish block 2 or 3 depending on what you liked to do. If your planning on going to ASU or UPX than youmay want to defer since they don't offer attending later in the program.
