This past Friday I received an acceptance letter for the fall 2015 program at MCC. I applied just last year and had a wait time of only two semesters, so it moved quickly. I was anticipating the wait to be over a year and a half so I decided to work towards the CEP. Currently with a full time job with overtime, school is at half time and I lack only two courses after this current semester is finished. Microbiology and Human pathology is all I lack in order to apply for the CEP with ASU or NAU.
I know you can defer the placement for only one semester, but I am not sure I can complete the remainder courses in time to apply for the CEP. I have a decent comprehensive HESI score at 87%, and if I get at least a C†and a B†grade for the remainder two courses I will have a minimum 3.0 gpa for the required courses.
If I start the program now, do I lose the chance to do the CEP program? Am I throwing away my guaranteed acceptance into the nursing program in hopes to do the CEP?
I understand, I work myself and I can it was difficult for me to study and find the time to get everything done. A few o my classmates started off with jobs from block one and ended up quitting or cutting hrs, few are still working full time but if your determined enough you will get it done. But I can tell you that most that are doing he CEP don't have jobs and the ones that are only doing their ADN's are working, so I would give that a try before trying to the CEP. That's just my opinion.
I almost feel like when I'm working I'm ten times more productive, and I know it sounds backwards, but when I know I only have four hours before work, or no hours this weekend so I gotta do it Wednesday or Thursday, I tend to work harder. Whereas when I know I have the whole weekend off.. I definitely allow myself to become distracted lol But I appreciate your input! I guess we will see if I eat my words come block one haha
I spoke with the school I wanted to apply at and was allowed to defer a second time. I told them I was placed with the Associates degree program but had been working towards the CEP entry and wanted to go that route. I asked if I should withdraw my application and resubmit and was told to send in an email to the director of the program and explain my situation. I did and heard back the next day. I was able to defer the second time allowing me to submit my application for the CEP. I was only a single course shy of all the required courses and fell into NAU's pilot program. I started the first summer portion this past few months and start block one next week. PM me and I will be more than happy to help in any way possible. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the update! Congrats on getting in! I was going to PM you but I haven't posted enough on this site to be able to send private messages. If you don't mind me asking, what GPA did you have when you applied to the NAU program? I have about a 3.1 and am nervous that won't be competitive enough. Thanks!
Honestly your gpa is better than mine was. It seems that at the time just about anyone who applied for the CEP made it in. I have heard though some did not so I can only speculate why. You can always retake the hesi exam to help boost the competition. Regardless apply anyways, you have come this far already. Also reply back on this thread so you can boost your post count!
That's true, thanks for the suggestion. This fall I still need to take BIO 205 and PSY 240. I will hopefully apply for the NAU CEP before the January 31st cut off date. I am also applying to the University of Phoenix program, as well as the GCU masters program because I already have my Bachelors. Fingers crossed one of those schools will accept me :)
