2017 Accelerated Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Hey everyone!

I know I am super early to be posting but I am sure some of you are in the same boat as me! I just graduated in BSc Biochemistry from the University of Guelph (last week actually) and am planning to apply to Accelerated Nursing Programs next December/January.

I am going to apply to McMaster (2 and 4 year), Western (2 and 4 year), Queens 2 year, UoT 2 year, and Humber 2 year.

My cGPA is 72.7% right now (because of first and second year). My GPA in the last 10 credits is 77%. My average in my final year is 83%. I am taking courses this summer and fall and hoping my cGPA will be up to 75% and GPA in the last 10 credits up to 84%.

I have volunteered in the ER at one hospital and in the Hospital Elder Life Program at another. And I completed a fourth year research project.

I know these programs are very competitive and I am already stressing, though months away, about the application process.

I am wondering

-what is your cGPA/GPA in the last 10 credits

-what schools you're applying to and why

-extracurricular activities

-any concerns/questions you may have?

Good luck to everyone and hopefully we can get through this stressful process together!!!

Hey,

I'm also planning on applying to programs this winter. I'm going into my fourth year at Guelph of BSc in Biological Sciences with a minor in Nutrition. I'm planning on applying to Mac (2 years), Western (2 years), Trent (3 years) and U of T (2 years). I'm hoping for Mac because it's the shortest program and the closest to home, so I can save money while going to school. My cGPA is currently 83.17% and my GPA for the last ten credits is 87%, but I'm taking courses this summer and I have one more year of my degree, so I'm hoping I can get my average up to an 86%.

I haven't participated in any extracurricular activities since high school, but I had taught art class over the summers to kids. My sister is a nurse and we're planning on going to Malawi this May to help educate people about AIDS/HIV transmission.

Beyond that, I'm just concerned about not getting in. :p

Good luck with exams, hope to hear from you!

Hello! Im graduating in June and am planning on applying to Western (2 year), Trent (2.5 years), and either Ottawa or Queens.

I don't think anywhere I'm applying to will look at my cGPA, only my last 2 years. But my last year I had an 80%, and I'm planning to bump that up as high as possible in this last year of study.

Im worried that the cut off averages will be even higher this year :( Good luck everyone

Hey @alexab09

Sounds like you and I are applying to some of the same places. :) I was wondering: where did you do your undergrad and what made you choose the particular nursing programs that you did?

Good luck! Look forward to hearing from you!

Hey @lmacki, I'm doing my undergrad at Western in London right now! I am from London originally which is why I would prefer to go to Western nursing. I chose Trent over Toronto mainly because I think living conditions would be a lot cheaper, and also I feel like I would be a lot less distracted in a city like Peterborough over Toronto.. But I would be happy going anywhere

have you already applied to any schools yet?

Hey @alexab09,

I've made my ouac account, but I haven't actually applied yet because I need to phone Mac and ask about a few things with my application. Have you applied yet?

No I haven't! Im thinking of applying after december but I'm not sure if theres a point in waiting..

I think I'm either going to apply in November just before exams start or after exams are over in December. I want to make sure I go through my application and don't make any stupid mistakes.
