Hi hopeful Fall 2011 NYU students!
I recently submitted my application for the accelerated BNS program. I saw that other semesters had discussions and I thought it would be nice to start one for us, just to help each other out through the application process.
I looked at past ones when I was filling out my application and found them to be helpful, so hopefully it will be for us.
Love to see who all is applying and how it's going:)

Hey all!
Yep no checks on my end either and I sent my transcripts in well before my application just so they would start an account for me...
I called on Monday because one of my transcripts is not listened so I wanted to make sure that it wouldn't be disregarded, and she said not to worry. That they are still working through all the regular undergrads so they haven't started sorting the BSN's yet. She said the school will e-mail us in plenty of time to notify us if something is missing.
This waiting around stuff is not no fun!
Hey RNDIVA85,
I had my GREs completed when applying to Columbia. To be honest, it makes you more competitive. Otherwise, the school has to wait for your pending scores. When I called to ask, they informed me that no applications would be considered complete unless your GRE scores were in and thus the application committee would give priority to those who had completed applications (those who had gotten the GRE scores in on time along with all the other application material required). Hope that helps!
halleyco4Hey! I am originally from SF, but have been living in San Diego for the past 5 years and attending school. I too got that e-mail, but like you said, it didn't provide much additional information. I figured I would give it a few weeks, then possibly try to call again to see if they can provide me status on materials. Being that we have applied for early decision, I figured as long as all materials are received by the April 1 regular decision it will be ok. So, thats my plan, give them a few weeks and hopefully the site will be updated and all items have been received by admissions. As far as my pre-reqs go I have completed them all besides developmental psych, which I am taking online right now. I will definitely let you know if I get any additional information. Good-luck to you too!! Hopefully we will be hearing back with decisions within 6 weeks! Good luck :)
KKandes I feel like we are twins! I am originally from the bay area and am living in San Diego. (I wonder if we know eachother lol) Also I am married and my husband and 2 dogs (Border collie and husky) will be moving. I want to move to NY so bad but am also afraid of my dog situation.
I am new to this forum. Good luck to everyone. I just turned in my app about 2 weeks ago. Im so anxious!!

Thats so funny, maybe we do know each other lol..where did you go for undergrad? Where are you originally from in the bay? I want to move to NY so bad, its been a dream of mine, so this waiting process is making me so anxious. Although, the price tag for an apartment there is making me anxious too lol. I have been looking at places which allow dogs and most are pretty pricey ( $2600 for a 1 bedroom), but I guess I need to get used to it living in NY. We should get together if we both get in! Good luck and hopefully we all hear sooner rather than later! :)
KKandes
First of all this is so fun. To actually talk to people about their experiences and imagine if we all got in to the same program! We will all be classmates! I keep thinking about that. Getting to class on the first day meeting everyone and saying "Wait your KKandes?!" Or, "Wait your Halley?!" OMG SO exciting to think about!!
Anyways lol Im doing my undergrad right now at San Diego State. Im graduating in May with a Bachelors in Kinesiology. I think I saw earlier that youre graduating too. (Yet another thing we have in common) I wonder if weve passed each other on campus. Haha Im honestly a little worried about my GPA. Its overall a 3.2. I havent taken the time to look at my prereq GPA but I bet its around the same.
And Im originally from Antioch but have family all over the bay. Right now my mom is living in South San Francisco. What about you?
Its been a dream of mine as well to live in NY. My husband and I were just going to move there for fun but then this opportunity came up. I am so nervous! My husband does photography so I feel like Im not just getting in for me I have to get in for the BOTH of us. Its putting a little extra pressure on the situation because I know if we moved there it wouldnt be just a great opportunity for me, his career would be able to explode there. Ugh.
And Kandes, (and everyone) I have been asking a ton of people. 2 of my husbands cousins live in NY and 1 of my friends is from there so Ive been asking them about some good AFFORDABLE places to live. I can find the email they sent and post it later but I am definitely looking for somewhere cheap. I know its NY and with the dogs Im mreally asking for a lot but I figure if I get in to the program there is no way I can work so my husband would be supporting us. Thats what Im most stressed about I think. The thought if I get in and we wont be able to afford it. I think thatd be worse than not getting in.. Anyways started getting carried away there but I also have a friend who lived in New Jersey and she said that is where we need to be living. She gave me a ton of pros and cons about certain places in New Jersey but for all of them its no more than a 30min ride on the subway or train. Ive been looking on craigslist for places in NJ. Just an idea to throw out to all my fellow NYU friends.
Oh and I have a question for everyone. I checked on Albert last night and it says my app is in Regular decision not priority..? I turned it in before March 1st so Im just wondering if thats a mistake or if anyone elses says that. Im pretty sure I submitted my app Feb 18? Am I being paranoid?
EmEmJay,
You're not being paranoid that it says regular decision. Mine says the same thing. I think they just are so inundated with applications that they have not been able to update everyone's status. I'm sure they will change it in a couple of weeks.
There are tons of places you can live that are safe. Manhattan is really expensive (kind of ridiculous). The neighboring boroughs are good though and public transportation is great, so I don't think there will be any trouble getting to where you need to get to. The nice thing about NYU is it is a big institution and they are affiliated with so many different things that public transportation to the school is very convenient. :)
I hope we all hear something soon! I can't wait to meet everyone!!!!
P.S. KKandes, have you heard anything about the wait-list?
Thanks Annie!
That makes me feel better. So Ive been hearing different things from websites and different forums. Some people say we will hear from them early April some say late April. I hope being that we turned ours in early we will be the early April. Im dying and its only been 2 weeks! Everytime I get a new email I get a little nervous thinking itll be from them! Haha
Annie
Hey! I have not heard anything yet for the wait-list, have you??? When I first found out I was wait-listed I talked to admissions and they said they would not be revising the wait-list until April 1, when they had a better idea of how many students turned down their acceptance. So, looks like we still have a wait. I was also reading a blog from last year and someone was offered admissions off the wait-list a week before the program began. Hopefully that doesn't happen to us! I hope to hear one way or another by April, but we shall see.

Yup, I will be walking in May. I finished all my classes in December, but since they only have May graduation I had to wait. I am a little worried too about my overall GPA, which is also a 3.2. My pre-reqs are much better with a 3.8, so hopefully they take that into consideration and my last 60 semester units. I am also hoping my work experience and letters of rec help in my application because I feel pretty good about those.
Good Luck Everyone!!!
Where else did everyone apply to?
Right now although not the smartest idea I have put everything I have into NYU. Thats the only one I could/wanted to apply to. I didnt have GREs done so my options were very slim as it was. It worked out perfect though for now because NYU is my #1. I figure if I dont get in Ill try again for the spring and then do GREs and apply to more places.

I did not send in any high school transcripts or test scores, so I am not sure why the box was checked? I will probably call in a few weeks just to make sure! I am nervous that my college transcript box isn't checked...
