Hey KKandes,

Thanks for letting me know when I'll hear from NYU. I'll probably call on Monday just to make sure all my materials got in by the deadline. NYC is very expensive, I know :( I'll probably end up living with some family members. My boyfriend lives in LI and it makes more sense to stay with one of my siblings who already live in the city. I was reading about the program and we can potentially go abroad! I am so excited! I wanted to go abroad during my undergraduate, but unfortunately, my family had an emergency, so I had to turn down the opportunity. I am getting very excited about NYU's program! I'm sure you will find a place to live. And if not in Manhattan, you'll find somewhere in the boroughs, which is just as nice, so don't worry. :)

Yea, I also so that on their website that there will be opportunities to travel abroad! I love traveling and any chance I get I will take the opportunity. Let me know when you call on Monday if they are able to check the status of your materials. I tried to call last week because I also wanted to make sure they got all materials in the mail, but I was told they were unable to check any students materials and if something was missing they would contact me. So I am just hoping they got everything. Anywho, good luck and hopefully we all hear great things soon!

Living in the city will definitely be an adjustment for me as I have never really lived in a big city except for of the summer when I studied in Dakar, Senegal but of course that is an entirely different type of city.

I got used to paying a bunch for rent when I was in southern california, but now I'm paying $400/mo in Fort Collins which is know is a joke for new york lol But I'm planning on moving in with family for the summer and saving up if I hear I get in.

I tried to call a few days after I submitted my application if they received the other materials and they told me that they are dealing with thousands of applicants for their other undergrad programs so they won't be even looking at ours until the 1st, but that they will send us an e-mail if something is missing. I asked that since that is past the deadline would we be penalized and the person said no, which I thought was a but odd....

The columbia program looked really wonderful, do you know what their waitlist acceptance rate is? I've heard of some schools that accept nearly 70% of their class from the waitlist so I wouldn't get too discouraged :)

I hope we all get accepted too. The only thing I'm a little worried about for me is that I still have the prereqs to complete so I'm nervous that if they get strong applicants that have already completed and done well in the courses they will get chosen over me, but we'll see.

The international connections that NYU offers is definitely a main reason why I applied...think of studying in Italy for the winter term!! ah it would be awesome.

Keep me updated with news!

Hi Everyone!!

My name is Ashley. I also applied to the Fall 2011 Accelerated BSN program at NYU! I just set up this account and am so happy that you all started a thread for us!

I submitted my application February 12 and got an email from them about two weeks. I got my netID and everything. You can check the status of your application by clicking on academics and logging onto Albert.

I went to the most recent open house this past thursday evening. I am so nervous about this whole process and wish we did not have to wait so long to hear back!! It was pretty helpful and was so much fun to be in the city!

Ashley :)

Hey, Welcome! Any good information or feedback when you went to the open house?

The Open House really was not very crowded at all... maybe 25-30 people. It was a powerpoint presentation. They talked about scholarships, financial aid, pre-reqs, etc. I asked how many applicants usually apply and how many they accept. They said the number of applicants always varies but they only take 30-35% of applicants! eek!!! With that said, what are all your guys stats like...pre-reqs, gpa, etc.! They also said if we apply by the March 1 deadline we will not be notified until late April, at the earliest!

Did you check your application status on the Albert Login? My application still says "incomplete." I am hoping they are just sorting through everything and still have to process my transcripts. I had all my transcripts sent February 14, so I hope they get there soon!!

Have you heard anything about the program regarding how many applicants, average GPA, or anything??

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for passing along the info you gained at the open house. I'm in CO so I couldn't attend one myself.

I looked on my application too and it says mine is incomplete too...I started sending my transcripts in Jan. so I think they just aren't looking at our stuff yet. Does yours say something about your hs transcripts and scores? I figured that was just a general thing for all undergrads but since we already have a bachelors its not needed (at least thats what the college of nursing website says) Let me know when they start completing yours.

As far as prereqs go I am sort of concerned because I'm still completing mine. I am currently in A&P I and micro and will finish them all with A&P II this summer....I have all A's except for chem B+ but we'll see what it is after this semester.

As far as GPA stuff goes I found this on another thread from '09 so its outdated but is probably relevant.

"As for the competiveness.... NYU is very competitive (of course every nursing school is). Rough stats for the Fall 08 class are 200 accepted out of 1400 applications, these numbers include traditional freshman, transfers and second degree students.

The difference between NYU and other nursing schools is that NYU is very holistic in their admission process. They don't have a set cut-off for pre-req GPA, most nursing schools put all applicants in descending order from highest GPA to lowest and cut off at the set student number. While a high GPA is an added plus, NYU focuses heavily on the admissions essays. Take your time when you write those. I know of applicants with 3.9 GPA's that were rejected and others (myself included) with good but not prestine GPA's that were accepted (i think mine was around 3.1-3.2)"

What did you all get your first degrees in? I have a BA in French and Humanities.

I'll let you know if anything changes on my application status

Halleyco4,

I am from St. Louis, MO. We went up to NY for the Open House and ended up staying for weekend. We made it a mini-vacation! I know no one else that is applying to NYU, so I am very happy that this thread was made!

My application says the exact same thing about standarized test scores and a final high school transcript. They also said at the open house not to worry about those and in a few weeks everything should be cleared on the application status.

Your pre-req grades are awesome!! I have mostly As and Bs but I do have one C+ in chemistry :(( I am trying not to be too worried about it. I read other threads and saw that quite a few people were accepted with some Cs. As far as still having your pre-reqs in progress, I would not worry at all! As long as you have all the courses finished before Fall 2011, I think you're fine!

I am currently a Senior at the University of Missouri and am getting a Bachelors of Arts and Science.

Hey Everyone! I think all of our applications say the same thing, mine is incomplete too. I think it will take them some time to put anything into the computer, considering they are doing admissions for the entire school this semester too. I too have also heard that NYU is pretty open in their process of admissions. From what I have read they consider all parts of the application, not just the GPA. As for me, I have all A's and 1 B ( Chemistry) for my pre-reqs. I will graduate this May with a BS in Business Marketing from SDSU. I have also been working at the UCSD Oncology Cancer Center with focus in pediatric brain tumors for the past 2 years. My overall GPA is not to good at a 3.2, but I hope they focus on my last 60 semester units which is a 3.7. I was a little immature as a freshmen and messed up my GPA big time, so it has taken a lot to get it back up to a 3.2. I am so excited and nervous for all this! Let me know if you all hear anything new! Good Luck!!!

Hi Everyone --

Just finished up my application for the accelerated BSN program and submitted it yesterday (I was agonizing over the personal statement). I moved to NYC from Memphis last summer and have been working on my prerequisites at LaGuardia CC. Nutrition is my last class for the spring term, which starts next week, and I've been happy with how I've done on the pre-reqs.

My first degree is in Journalism from the University of Illinois - but that was years ago (graduated in 1995). It's been quite a change being back in school but I am loving it.

Nervous about the whole application process but I figure at this point it's out of my hands - just going to keep positive, focus on my last pre-req and hope for the best.

Good luck to everyone - hope to see you this fall. :)

Hey everyone,

NYU is backed up with applications. Apparently, they have a lot, so don't worry if your application reads incomplete. In a couple of weeks it should be updated. NYU doesn't just look at grades and GPAs. They like applicants that have had experience too, so I wouldn't worry too much if your GPAs are not as good as other applicants. Everyone here seems more than qualified!

Good luck everyone!!!

Wow it seems like everyone has really interesting backgrounds! I really hope we all get in and I get to meet you all :)

Thanks for the encouragements on the prereqs. I'm happy they they have a more well rounded admittance policy because I feel like my extra curriculars are have been more valuable then my academics.

I'll let you all know when something changes on the status.
