Accelerated BSN program NYU Fall 2011

Published

Hi hopeful Fall 2011 NYU students!

I recently submitted my application for the accelerated BNS program. I saw that other semesters had discussions and I thought it would be nice to start one for us, just to help each other out through the application process.

I looked at past ones when I was filling out my application and found them to be helpful, so hopefully it will be for us.

Love to see who all is applying and how it's going:)

I may wait to join just because I havent told everyone yet and I dont want them to find out on fb.. lol

Oh and I live in San Diego, CA. What a big move going to the east coast. And a drastic weather change for me!! But so excited!

Also Im bringing my husband and 2 dogs with me. We plan to live in New Jersey. My friend lived out there and gave me a nice Pros and cons list of places. I can copy and paste it onto here if anyone is interested..

Hey EmEmJay-

Just wanted to give you a heads up... my boyfriend is from northern NJ and moved back to the area for a job in NYC in the fall. NJ is actually a nice place to live, but be advised: the commute to NYC can SUCK. Usually, the way TO the city in the morning wasn't that bad for him, but the way home was awful. Sometimes it would take almost two hours for him to get home, and all he really had to do was cross the Hudson river. Just some food for thought. (And, I'm no expert on NYC at all- just my two cents!)

No thank you jdubs. Very good to know! We will see where we end up. Dont really mind a commute but 2 hours is a little much. I just mainly need a place for my dogs thats not going to cost me my first born.

If anyone has anymore updates let me know and Ill do the same for everyone.

I live in NYC right near NYU. As far as NJ goes, Hoboken and Jersey City are great options. These areas of NJ are served by the Path train - which is very similar to the subway (except cheaper and cleaner!). The Path lets you off within walking distance of NYU. These areas of NJ may even be easier to commute from than some areas of Brooklyn/Queens. Depending on where you are in these areas (Jersey City or Hoboken) your Path train ride can honestly be as short as 10 minutes! I've lived in NYC my whole life and would be happy to give my opinion on neighborhoods, commutes, etc...

Ya I heard Hoboken was good. Ill copy and paste the email right now:

If you plan on attending NYU and want to live in jersey, definitely go for north jersey, NOT jersey shore lol here's some places to consider:

(( Hoboken & Jersey City ))

PERKS - pretty much right across he river from NY - very close to the PATH (train that runs 24/7 between NY and NJ).. hoboken is cool because its very college-y and there's tons of bars around.

CONS - it's right by the city so it's all apartments... chance of finding one with a yard is very slim :(blank.gif

(( Secaucus ))

PERKS - you may have a better chance of finding a house/apt to rent with a yard. There's a main train station that goes to NY and the ride is only about 5 mins. There's also tons of buses to NY. A lot of diners and shops. Also really close to Giants Stadium.

CONS - It smells LOL no seriously. it smells like feet.

(( Rutherford, Lyndhurst, Clifton, etc ))

PERKS: finding a place with a yard won't be a problem. the more west you go, the more suburby it gets. there are buses and train stations to NY in each town but i'm not positive if they run 24/7. Buses and train rides are only like 15-20 mins though so no big. a good option if you like the hometown-y feel but still not too far from the city.

CONS - again, getting to the city isn't as convenient.

---Also consider Long Island.. It's pretty much the NY version of Jersey and also very close to the city.

And Halley I just sent you a friend request lol

annie, i think i requested to join. did i find the right one?

Hi all,

Congratulations to everyone that was accepted into the Fall 2011 Accelerated BSN program!

I was curious if anyone applied to the traditional transfer program and then starting on the accelerated track in the Spring 2012/future? I didn't see a thread for Fall 2011 traditional transfers. I submitted my application on April 1 and haven't recieved any email confirmation from NYU on AlbertID or etc. I did email Admissions and she confirmed my application is under review.

Also, any current students have feedback on the traditional transfer program and how it works in conjunction with accelerated? For example, I only need to complete one pre-req and wasn't sure if I could take nursing classes/ electives that would tranfer into the accelerated program. I know I won't graduate with a BSN in 15 months but was hoping for 18-20 months to complete everything.

Thanks all for your advice/help!

so i looked up campus housing....lowest cost for a single room is 7,823 per semester times 4 semesters=31,292. thats equal to 2086 a month. Can find apartments together for wayyyyy cheaper.

Hi Sc2634-

I was accepted today as a traditional transfer - I applied by the 3/1 priority deadline. I will be done with my last science prereq (micro) in a few weeks. I don't know what if any additional classes I will have to take before joining the accelerated track. Hopefully, few if any - I have a ton of college credits. I'm guessing I'll find out after I pay my deposit :)

theres a place on my albert to accept acceptance....500 bucks!

Hey SC,

You applied on April 1st and the counselor said your app is under review already? I applied for the Accelerated track and got all of my materials in on March 31st, but it sounds like a decision for me won't be ready for a few more weeks. I am super jealous! Let me know when you hear!

I am interested in this option!!!!
