Does anybody attend the accelerated BSN program in NJCU? If so what is the cost of the program? How competative is it to get in? Will they accept you if your overall GPA is lower than a 3.0 but you have a very high GPA in your prerequisites? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for your response, i will look at her post.. also thank you for your information about the Hesi exam.. are you applying as well?

No problem! I'm torn btwn NJCU, Rutgers and UMDNJ. Also Middlesex co. college for the ASDN route. :uhoh3:

Are you applying anywhere else?

i am not sure yet, maybe Suny Downstate in Brooklyn... everywhere the pre-reqs are different so i have been going by what NJCU is requiring!

For you guys who have started the program, can you share a little bit how its going so far and what the weeks/days are like?

thanks

hi. i currently attend the school.it been going well.the teachers are very helpful and very willing to help.we go to school from monday to friday.some days are long and some are not but you have lots of things to keep you busy like assignments, quizes, tests etc.the students are pretty much cooperating so far, though some like to stay on their own which i do not like,i believe we should all work together.there is so much to say.the summary is that it is a great place to school.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing, Critical care nursing.

Hi Miralpn, do the prerequisite courses (micro and A&P) have to have lab components? They say 6-8 credits of A&P...I have A&P 1 and 2 without lab, will I have to retake? Also, will they take the application with courses in process (As long as they are complete prior to start date)? Thanks

Right now NJCU is the only place I am applying to.

Secondcareergirl-- could you tell me (us) some more in depth of the program? Did you find a job? How did a typical 'work-school' day look for you?

I am in the midtst of finishing up all the application requirements such as letters of recommendation, essay, grades and what not.. Also finishing up A&P2 and will start Microbiology in the spring.. I am very excited and keeping my fingers crossed to get into this program.

I would totally appreciate any answers or hints that you can think of.

thanks in advance.

Hi All,

Am currently doing the pre-requisites for the accelerated BSN program at Jersey City University. Am then hoping I will be accepted to the program.

Am wondering if the program graduates are finding jobs in the NJ/NY area. Secondcareergirl - did you find a job?

Am eager to be a nurse, but would hate to go through the whole program and then not be able to find a job...

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ginger

Hi Jersey Guy,

Thank God I found your post; I need to ask for your help in regards to how you collected unemployment while attending school full-time. I've recently been laid off from my job, through no fault of my own( I've worked in Pharma Adverstising for 5 years now, and this is the THIRD time I've been laid off). I had been wanting to go back to school for about 4 years now for nursing, and figure this is the perfect opportunity. I've done the research, and found everything that you had mentioned in your post (ie. ATB, tuition waiver, NJ's hot job list) and went to the One-Stop career center. I printed out all the info, filled out my paperwork and waited to speak to a counselor. When I finally got called in, the counselor was down-right rude and told me that ' You must be crazy thinking that the state would pay for you to go back to school. You have a bachelors degree; you can find another job'. I was crying. I continued by telling him that I have the research for the in-demand careers in NJ, RN is on the list (like you said) and he looked at the paperwork and acted as if he'd never seen or heard what I was talking about. He proceeded to tell me that the only way I would be able to collect my unemployment benefits and go to a school for nursing would be to enroll in a vo-tech program, and become an LPN. To me, this is 10 steps backwards. If I have a bachelors, my best move (and this is also advised by my mother who is an RN BSN and her professors at Monmouth U) would be to take my pre-reqs at a county college and then apply to a fast-track program. I'm so scared that I'm going to lose my benefits while trying to complete my pre-reqs. How did you collect while attending school full-time? Do you have a contact person that I could speak to at NJ unemployment? I'm terrified! It doesn't make sense to me to be penialized for trying to better myself in a career where I will never be out of work ever again. Please let me know any info you have; it would ease my mind tremendously.

Hello,

Has anyone else out there applied to the May 2009 Communiversity Cohort? I am taking the HESI A2 on Friday, and I am so nervous!!! Can anyone let me know when NJCU will let us know if we have been accepted/rejected?

Thank you.

Sorry - I have not been on this website in quite a while. I did find a job as a school nurse. I applied and was accepted as a full-time school nurse. I am now in school for my Nurse Certification at NJCU. The job market is tough right now, but I have a feeling that it will not be that way forever. If you are just starting out in school, try to get a part time job or volunteer at a hospital. Get your name known while you are in school so that you may apply to that hospital when you are in your senior semester for a job. If they know your name, you are much more likely to get a job. Good Luck!!!

I am applying to the May 2009 Cohert for NJCU. I haven't taking the HESI yet, soon...good luck to you and I hope we will be seeing each other!! I read posts from last year it seems like we won't know for a little while if we are in or not :(
