Does anybody attend the accelerated BSN program in NJCU? If so what is the cost of the program? How competative is it to get in? Will they accept you if your overall GPA is lower than a 3.0 but you have a very high GPA in your prerequisites? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

hi joanne82 - i graduated from njcu's accerated program may 2008. i took my boards and passed. now i am having difficulty finding an rn position. i don't know if the market in northern nj is glutted or not. but i keep trying. my advice to you if you get in the program is to be sure you stay on top of everything. my class had a bumpy experience, but probably because we were the first class through the program. as far as what gpa's and such, there is no rhyme or reason to it. i will keep my fingers crossed for you.:)

hi secondcareergal - i am hoping to get into the program may of 2009. could you tell me how may people were in your class?

i'm just curious how selective they have to be.

congrats on the graduation :yeah: and good luck with the job search!

Kaylah18 - NJCU took 45 students (approx.) at the NJCU Campus in Jersey City. I think they probably took the same amount at the Communiversity. Good Luck and Hope you get in.

to anyone who has been through the accelerated program, could you tell me if you had the time to work a part-time job, and if so, what kind of job was it?

thanks in advance!

You really don't have much time between studying, etc. If you absolutely need to work, I would suggest a weekend day. Remember, it is alot of material in a short amount of time. Good Luck.

I'm looking for current/past students of the accelerate course and wanted to know how well prepared you felt from clinicals? Also, how accessable are the profs? Do they explain things well? Is there tutoring available?

Hi rgirl - I am a former student of the accelerated program at NJCU. The clinicals give you some exposure, but my opinion is that until you do it 100 times, you don't own the skill. The professors are pretty good, but if you want tutoring, you will have to speak to the professor of the class in question directly. If you don't ask, you won't hear anything about tutoring. Good Luck in the program.

Hi secondcareergal! Thanks for your quick reply! I've been accepted to another program, and I'm trying to decide between NJCU and the other. Were you pleased with this program, or did you wish you had gone somewhere else? Was 12 months too short a time? Is it "sink or swim" or are there support systems?

If you were accepted somewhere else, I would compare the two programs. NJCU can be a sink or swim program. Does the time you finish to get your degree make a difference? The 12 month program is very fast and you will be living and breathing this program for the next year. I hope that this was somewhat of a help to you.

Secondcareergal (or any other students) what did you like most about NJCU? What did you dislike most? Would you highly recommend the program? The time isn't a huge difference to me. I'm more concerned with getting a good education.

For me, time was a factor. I could afford to quit my job for one year, but not much more, so that was my deciding factor. If time is not an issue, then you may want to go with a more traditional program. NJCU is good, but with everything being so accelerated, there are things we did not get, like information about intern/extern positions; any job placement help; they do a course that includes resumes, but it is not like the more traditional programs that have the contacts with the nurse recruiters. You may want to keep that in the back of your head. Whichever program you choose - much success in the future.:)

Hello All,

I am applying to NJCU for fall of 2009 and i am currently taking the Science Pre-reqs... I am curious if anyone who is taking it now or took it b4 what their schedule during the week was like? 8-5? mon-fri? Is it a break between semesters, i am just curious so I can plan the next two years (this is based on being accepted into the program 09) also, how many pages did the admissions essay have to be?

Do you apply and then take the HESI exam? Also on the website it doesnt say Chemistry is one of the Pre-Requisits... is this true?

I am very thankful in advance for any responses...

hi msrouge,

njrntobe has a post on page 3 that describes the program. she went to the one in wall, nj, but i'm sure it's pretty much the same as the one in jersey city. there are short breaks in between the semesters.

the essay should be 1-2 pages. you apply first, then take the hesi exam. and chemistry is not one of the pre-req's but it would be helpful if you took it.

there is no online application for the program, you would need to contact the school and have one mailed to you.

hope that was a bit of help.

good luck! :D
