Accelerated BSN in NY?

Published

Hey everyone..

I'm new to this site. I am a current undergrad at NYU doing Nutrition and Dietetics. I plan to get an accelerated in Nursing soon. I see that NYU, Stony, Downstate, Columbia are very competitive. I'm wondering if you guys can assist in compiling a list of Accelerated BSN programs in NY. .. and on a side note what you know about them...

Really appreciate it..

is it possible to get online degree-without attending school?

yes you can, at stonybrook. completely on-line, and no clinicals. you have to attend an orientation on campus to learn how to use the computer system.

thank you very much for the information. how do i meet the clinical requirement then? or is that a degree just without any clinicals? i don't think it could be possible....do they recognize the hours i work in the hospital (i mean my job) as my clinical hours for bsn?

_my question sounds funny to myself...he.. he..

you know, i'm not quite sure how to answer that. imo, why does one need clinicals after they've completed enough (thru the adn), possibly more than a baccalaureste prepared nurse? and let me tell you, in my 'clinicals' on the bsn level, i learned absolutely nothing more than at the adn level. i am an adn-> bsn-> (almost) msn prepared rn.

the question is this: is there a requirement for a certain # of clinical hours to obtain the degree?? you already have the licensure, so that's not a concern. my guess is no. i believe there are other programs that do not require clinicals to transition to bsn, i just know of stinybrook off hand. i got my bsn at molloy, and the program there has since changed, so it may not require clinicals.

check the stonybrook website. i think its http://www.usb.edu

or just search suny stonybrook.

I am currently half-way done with NYU's 15-month accelerated program. It is incredibly expensive (I only received a small scholarship), but with nursing salaries today, I feel okay about taking out pretty big loans to pay for a short ticket to my RN. The program itself hasn't really lived up to all my expectations, but the clinical experiences make up for it. NYU has contracts with almost every hospital in the metro area, so by the time I'm done with the program, I think I'll have a good idea where I do and don't want to work. The lectures are huge because they have started letting in a lot more students. There's now a Spring semester start for the 15-month program too. I love the location and NYU's college facilities. I am glad I went, but if taking out loans is a problem, it probably isn't the place for you.

Hi..

I am in an accelerated 21 month nursing program here in NYC. It's Adelphi University and is ACTUALLY located in Garden City, on long island. Buuut, there is also a manhattan campus in Soho where you can take classes as well. Anyhow, the program is ok. Every program has it's own issues and you will always get a biased opinion either way. The tuition is $20,000 a year and it doesn't include summer. According to people I have talked too, all private institutions do not look as summer as a regular semester thereby, financial aid is not available due to that fact.

Anyhow..

I chose this accelerated nursing program because it has a holisitc focus which I believe, is important. Sooo, with that being said, I am here and making the best of my education. Once you're in school, it is seriously up to you what you get out of it. I believe that.

If you do decide to check out this university, you can register in Manhattan as well, just know that. I was not aware of that and I registered in Garden City and now have to take summer courses in garden City, but I live in Brooklyn.

Good luck...

Does anyone attend Dominican College or did anyone graduate from there? I'm wondering what the reputation of the program is and if you would suggest going there. Also if anyone has any advice about the program at pace university or college of new rochelle I would be soooo thankful!!! I can't decide whether to fork over the money for pace or which program is better. I'm also considering stony brook....help anyone!!

hi, I read your post on Dominican College. I would go for the ABSN. Can you tell me how the commute is? The faculty? And what about your job prospects?

Hi! The program at Adelphi university (21 month)- is it for students who do not possess a previous degree in Nursing? Just curious. I too reside in the Brooklyn area and I am having difficulty finding accelerated programs b/c it seems like some schools want additional courses in addition to the A&P's, Micro, and Chem. I was also checking out schools in NJ and upstate NY but I have limited $$$$$$$$ to dorm. . . Is it possible to take all the courses at the Manhattan campus instead of going out to Garden City?
