I just graduated from an Accelerated BSN program that had no waiting list and accepted internation students..but we did have pre-reqs and that is the standard. The only accelerated programs that don't require pre-reqs are 3 year direct entry MSN programs, they include the pre-reqs in the program. I know the University of Texas has one. Best of luck!
I agree with the previous poster, you will be hard-pressed to find a school that does not require pre-requisites. How do you think they boil the material down to 15 months? It's because all the students have already taken a year (or more) worth of pre-requisites. It's not safe to begin nursing courses without an understanding of A&P, biology, chemistry, and in my opinion psychology, ethics, and statistics have helped me a lot in my nursing studies as well.
Well I think you are always going to have general education requirements...most programs don't necessarily have a wait list but are very competitive. As far as accepting international student most schools do, to the best of my knowledge (i researched these schools for my husband who isn't a citizen) with the exception of the programs that requires you to sign a contract with a hospital or facility in return for them paying for your school expensive. Those require citizenship or permanent residency because they cannot have u sign a contract to work for a couple of years, because those on a student visa are only allowed to stay here legally at that status for one year following the completion of their education. This website: http://www.aacn.nche.edu/Publications/Issues/Aug02.htm shows a programs offered by state.
Any Accelerated BSN with the pre req's built in is a traditional program...I don't think there is an ABSN program without them, otherwise it would not be accelerated. You would need a minimum of a year to do the pre req's and then at least a year to complete the nursing classes.
You have to complete prerequisites because that is fundamentals of your success in nursing program. A&P should be "A" , chemistry and statistics a must. I will say a good psychology course will help you a lot too.
If English is not your major, take English composition and English literature course.
You have to write a lot in nursing school otherwise you will end up missing time for studying nursing courses.
