Hey! Just wanted to make a thread on the upcoming Accelerated nursing program at NYU for Fall 2016.
I have started my application process! I'm waiting for my professor to complete one of my letter of recommendations and I am putting the final touches on my personal statement. How is everyone else doing in the process?
Congrats on completing your first semester nem90, How is the class schedule? Is it Mon-Fri, no days off? Do you commute, Train or drive? I will be taking the train if I get accepted and I live in white plains NY. Are you in the same classes as the traditional students? And lastly, how large are the classes (speaking mostly about how many students).
Oh and how did you do? Was it ridiculously difficult like I hear about all the accelerated programs?

Hey FutureRNKD,
-The school actually makes your schedule for you, so there are some variations in some of the schedules. I happen to have Tuesdays off, while others have Thursdays off, but we are in school M,W,F no matter what. Class usually goes till 3, but you need all the free time you have for studying. I wrote a more detailed schedule on the "NYU ABSN Fall 2016" thread about the schedule if you want to see it.
-I live in the city but I do commute, I drive, my husband goes to school next door at the dental school, so we drive a little smart car down, but a lot of people take the subway or train. Also, some of the lectures don't take attendance, so if you live far away and for some reason can't make it, all the lectures are recorded so you can podcast the class you missed.
- Both traditional and accelerated students all take the same classes, but I don't think any of the people in our actual class are traditional, since we will be taking the second sequence classes during the summer, and traditional doesn't.
-Class size - we started out with ~160-180 students I think, but students have been dropping out, I personally know of 3 students that left, so there may be more that I don't know about. They split the classes in half so your big lectures usually have 80 kids in the class. But in one of the labs it is 12 kids, and your off campus clinical have 6 - so the times where you need individualized attention- you get it, which is nice. I came from a smaller university and haven't felt the large class size negatively effects me- the teachers are really approachable and want to have students participate in class.
-We've only had midterm exams so I can't give you a GPA yet lol. So far I've been getting low 90's and one exam high 80's. I was an A student in undergrad if that helps put it in perspective. I've also passed all of the practicals on the first try.
-I guess the level of difficulty is relative to each student. I've had to take organic chem and other upper level bio classes for my first bachelors so I guess I'm used to this level of learning. The difficulty for me is that there are a lot of little projects, assignments etc. so factoring time in for doing those assignments, but also finding time for studying for exams, and practicing for your practicals is the overwhelming part. It is a lot of work, it is intense - so yes, be prepared to not have a life lol, but it is all doable!
Also, nursing in general is a different way of thinking, and they try and prep you for the NCLEX by asking those types of q's on your exams, which requires this different frame of thought. So don't be upset if you tend to not get straight A's right away because it's a skill that can really only come with time and practice.
Hope that helped somewhat! - Sorry for the long post!

I was wondering if anyone went on Albert and realized that under financial aid, there is information saying aid year 2016, institution New York University; aid description, says no financial aid data available, or no award data available? If you all do, what do you think this means?
It didn't show this before..but now I see it
