Hey! Just wanted to make a thread on the upcoming Accelerated nursing program at NYU for Fall 2016.
I have started my application process! I'm waiting for my professor to complete one of my letter of recommendations and I am putting the final touches on my personal statement. How is everyone else doing in the process?
Hey pranjb- I'm finishing up my first semester here so I had to deal with this already lol. Just so you know, you are eligible for grants via FAFSA, like Pell Grants if this is still your first degree. If it is your second degree - you aren't eligible, but I don't think it has anything to do with being a transfer student. You are still eligible for federal student loans if you haven't taken out the maximum, and they also suggest private loans like Sallie Mae. Also they give a $2,500 scholarship for financial need. If you have any other questions let me know.
Thank you, nem90. That's a relief! I called the financial aid office today and was told that none of the second degree students qualify for grants. I really hope it works out because I would really really hate it if finances keep me from attending my first choice program.
Hi, do you mind if I ask you about housing? What did you, or some of your classmates, do for housing situations?
No problem! I live with my husband in the city uptown - my old university leases apartment buildings that alumni can rent, so we get a good rate on the apartment. But a lot of people live in Brooklyn, Staten Island, some live in Manhattan as well. I only know a few people that live in the dorms. I would suggest looking at apartments and trying to find roommates that can split the rent so it's not so expensive. I think that might be cheaper than the dorms- but I'm not 100% sure how much the dorms cost.

I know what you mean, it's super stressful! Sallie Mae seems to be pretty good about giving loans out, and if you didn't take out too many loans for your first degree, you can use that towards this degree. I know people in my class that work part time as well - I wouldn't suggest doing that, but if you have to, there are people managing to somehow balance everything. The first semester will be the hardest, because a lot of the scholarships that are offered are based on your GPA in nursing school, so after your first semester when you've generated a GPA, you can start applying for academic scholarships (although I hear they're hard to get )
Hope this helped some!
