Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??![]()
This week is definitely going by too slowly. Remember how the interview notifications kept getting pushed back? I also have a feeling we won't hear on Monday, but I hope I'm wrong.
Just wondering if anyone has been accepted at other schools and decided to go elsewhere, or is Duke all of our #1 choices?
Well, we definitely won't hear on Monday because Monday is Presidents Day and I bet that they're not working.
I was accepted to another program on Friday but, I would definitely much, much rather go to Duke. In fact, if I didn't get in to Duke, I think I'd consider re-applying for January 2011, rather than going to the other school. However, I will say that it has helped me relax a little to know that I got in somewhere. More than anything, it's boosted my confidence-- if I got in to the other place, why wouldn't Duke accept me, too? It's just a good ego boost to get in somewhere. The only other place that I heard from was a rejection from University of Southern Maine in late-November. That was a bummer. Boo.
What about you, kspills? Are you applying anywhere else? Have you heard from anywhere, yet?
Yeah, I was accepted at Case Western back in November. Like you, I would definitely prefer to go to Duke, even though Case has a great program and reputation too. I think I also would probably try for the January class if I didn't get in for this fall. It definitely eased my nerves a little by already having been accepted somewhere!
Yeah, yeah, they won't finish on Friday, but someone said they were meeting that day. That's all I was referring to. I'm telling myself it'll be a week from Friday before I can expect to hear anything, so if it's earlier, it'll be a nice (I hope) surprise.
Duke is my first choice. Yep. If I get in, I'm there. If I don't get in, we may actually move up to the area anyways and I'll try again for spring, if I don't get into my second choice school here in Florida. Or maybe even if I do. ![]()

Someone mentioned that the cost to attend Duke is 80,000 for the ABSN program. I have tried to find a cost breakdown on their website but can only find the price per credit (ug & grad). I just multiplied the number of UG & G credits in the ABSN program by the price per credit and came up with ~$55,000 for tuition. There are probably a few other fees, but couldn't add up to more than ~$60,000... Am I wrong? Does anyone have or know more accurate cost estimates?
I dont know if this helps with the anxiety or makes it worse, but I spoke with our fav lady today. She tells me that Friday is a marathon day and they intend to get all the reviews done. Theyll start sending notifications on monday which, despite the holiday, is not a day off for Duke.
Woo Hoo!! Decisions will be here before you know it! ![]()

Do they really make all of their decisions in just one day? It seems crazy to me that they can reach a verdict on so many applications in one fell swoop.
From what I could tell from the interview- it looked like the professor was filling out a "score care" of sorts. From what I recall, the sheet of paper on which she was taking notes (furiously- while I was talking) had several empty boxes. Perhaps 3 or 4? For some reason I'm thinking the interview portion was worth 20 points...
Gosh- I could be totally off in left field with this one... But that was my impression.
Also- my mom worked at a very selective science and math school that had a similar process. Points for the gpa. Points for the essay. Points for the rec. letters. Points for the interview. etc.
So it may not be a roundtable discussion so much as it will be tally the numbers and reviewing any special circumstances.
Just a thought. Did anyone else see numbers going into boxes during the interview??
Six Days?? and counting....
