ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

I'm 31 (as of two days ago!) and I have a two year old! Just had to tell you. I'm braving it and going for the ABSN with lots of help from family. Let me know if any of you have kiddos and how you plan to make it through the program sanely.

Let's hope we get an email or a call today, great to know the dates we get to choose from, you guys have the inside scoop for sure, gotta love this thread!!!

Just to clarify, I am NOT a supporter of meanness to seniors. I meant to say that it's NOT nice to pick on the elderly. :smackingf

Senior moment, huh? I hurve they al the tim.

rubypie: I've got two daughters, age 6 and 8. We've geared up to prepare for my absence. My husband will be working from home more and my mother and mother in law will be popping in to help. ABSN is gonna be like ripping off the band-aid...quick and painful.

Just spoke with "our favorite person". She is currently working on the email to send out to everybody with the dates available and more information. We should get it within the next 30 minutes.

They will follow up with a phone call after (not sure if today or not) but she said we could respond back to the email with our date of preference.

Hope this helps!!!

I've never been more glued to my inbox! :specs:

I almost wish I didn't know that...How am I supposed to get anything done?? And my stupid BlackBerry is not getting emails for who knows what reason...I'm a therapist I know anxiety coping skills, why can I not apply them to myself??????

Also, anyone else going through the "what ifs"? What if they get my email address wrong, what if it gets put into a spam folder, what if hungry monsters come and eat my laptop rendering me emailless? Um am I overreacting? I think not.

My stress coping technique is browsing allrecipes.com for peppermint cupcakes.

Maryash: Oh goodness, yes. All week long I've been thinking "what if she was wrong in the email? what if I'm NOT actually 'interview status'? what if they change their minds??"

GenevaMarie: I made sel gris caramels, my favorite candy, the other day just to have something to do to take my mind off all this. :-D

Hey, are any of you planning (if accepted) to relocate to Durham with a significant other or family? My biggest worry over this entire thing is my boyfriend, who graduates in May from his master's program in mental health and marriage/family counseling and will be needing to find a job... he's being amazing by letting me essentially limit his job search to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, but I'm a little worried for him, because he's totally a rock star at what he does :heartbeat and I don't want him to end up with a crappy job just because I decided I HAD to go to Duke. I know mental health has been somewhat recession-proof, but... yikes. He's available to start in June or so, and if I need to decide re: Duke by March-ish, that's way too early for him to start job hunting, you know?

Not at all! It has been 35 minutes since taz posted that "she" will be sending the email in the next 30 minutes. This far exceeds the limit of acceptable tardiness. This is an outrage! :Crash:

twois: my BF (of 4 years) manages the news website for Channel 10 in Columbus. It's such a specific job- that he is in a tizzy at the thought of leaving it. I think there is only one major station in the Raleigh-Durham area... but I check for job postings everyday. There is a strong possibility that (if I were to be very fortunate) I will be moving without him. :o

But ya know... it might be better for my GPA.

omg 30+ minutes is completely insane! Everytime my work phone rings- I jump out of my skin.

Looks like somebody called the office and has prevented "her" from sending out the email like she originally planned. I tried to get off the phone as quick as possible (but still get my questions answered) so she could get back to the email. With people calling in all the time, I figured if we get it by 2pm, "she" is doing really good. If nothing else, I figured by the EOB, we should have it.

I have several email address (work and personal) and I don't remember which one i used so I am constantly checking all of them. The email servers are probably getting tired of me. :banghead:
