ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

Ruby,

I agree, the GRE is about the dumbest thing ever. It in no way predicts what type of student you will become. I know with my ACT I barely broke 20, but ended up with a 3.5 GPA with a double major, for my GRE I came in under 1000 but I recieved my Masters with a 3.89 GPA. Did you write an adendum to go along with your application? You may not be a "automatic" interview but with some coaxing I'm sure they will realize you have potential way beyond what a stupid GRE score says.

Carolina, thanks for the sharing the information with the group. I feel like 70 out of 200 is pretty great odds. I am just ready to start planning for Duke Days and take the next step.

Hope everyone else is hanging in there...Im still getting nothing done, the suspense is killing me!:D

Do you guys mean everyone with over a 3.0 GPA and over a 1000 GRE score will get an interview?

sweet! I just called and I got an interview!

Although it's probably not a good idea to inundate her with calls right now, it seems they have a partial list of people they are going to interview already and will be finishing up this week. They will be notifying people by end of this week and beginning of next.

No...I have never heard the actual numbers they use to determine who gets an interview. rubypie, please don't get discouraged. I wish I hadn't posted my last reply. We just don't know enough about what they're looking for as far as stats goes, and even if you fall below that number, it just means that they'll then look at your whole application to determine interview invitations. All applications remaining (after the ones exceeding the benchmark are taken out) are reviewed. So, if you don't make the "automatic interview," it definitely does not mean you're out!!! Keep your chin up and think positively.

BTW, I think the GRE is ridiculous too.

I am so sad right now. I meet the GPA requirement but my GRE doesn't meet the requirement.

When will I know if I get an interview????

At the informational session they said they have accepted lower GRE scores. And they are thinking to throw them out completely so I don't understand why they are making this a factor in calling for interviews? Please shed some light anyone. I'm discouraged. :o

Hang in there Rubypie! I know they were thinking about doing away with the GRE requirement, especially since they've already done away with it for the Master's program it doesn't make alot of sense to keep it around for the Bachelor's. They had a meeting about it, but apparently there were still some questions/concerns and it was only a few weeks before the deadline, so for this cohort at least, it still counts.

If I'm understanding Carolina11, it sounds like your application might not make the automatic pile, but that doesn't mean you won't get an interview - just not an automatic one. Seems like they wouldn't turn anyone away based soley on test scores, or their PREFERRED score would have to be a REQUIRED one.

Carolina11 - Thanks for the great intel! Better than 1 in 3, it could be worse! Now we just have to find out what that darn threshhold is... Hmmm.

I sure wish I had an excuse to give the nice lady a call so I could do some investigating, but other than "Am I in?" I really can't think of anything! Hopefully our phones will start ringing soon. In the meantime, at least we have this thread to help us through the wait!

Good luck everybody! :heartbeat

Yes. If an app doesn't meet their benchmark for "automatic interview," it is still reviewed. Now-I'm not sure or not if that benchmark is the same as the preferred GPA and GRE that are mentioned in the application directions. SO, I don't believe they turn anyone away at all when it comes to reviewing app for interview. If you don't make the automatic cutoff, they just dig a little deeper into your app to make a decision.

Also, I think I've used up my sane and acceptable number of phone inquiries. Someone else is going to have to find a reason to call in for more info, or else I'm afraid I'll be moved to "stalking status."

:deadhorse What the heck does this thing mean?

I think they're beating a dead horse?

(Or else it's something likely illegal once you get out of the South...)

I emailed "her" earlier today about something else and asked casually about interviews... but I'm fairly sure I'm rapidly using up my acceptable communications quota, too, so I'm gonna just wait and see how this week plays out. :)

After she helped me with something last week and I promised to sit quitely and wait...What was I thinking?!?!?

Hehe.. I think I'm still under quota for the moment in re: bothering *nice lady*, so I'll be glad to ask more questions when I call her with my GRE score on thursday if anything pressing comes up on the thread. :)

If we give you a list of our names, could you ask her if we got interviews? No? Too much? Hehe...

Good luck on the test!

JasonB-

Good luck on the GRE from your loquacious friends at allnurses!
