Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
Great news my fellow hopefuls! Talked to *the dear one* this afternoon and she told me I am considered for the interview! As it stands, she said that they decided "late in the game" that the GRE will be thrown out for next go round and it can be waived if you like for this one. They couldn't update the website soon enough or be in touch with everyone so this is what it is: if your GPA is 3.25 or higher you will be considered. If you wish, you can ask for the GRE score to NOT be reviewed when the panel actually looks at you. I opted for this so she said she marked my GRE as "waived". She said a lot of people were doing this, many of the ones who found out at the last minute it was not required. AND she said they would be in touch very very soon!! Sounded like later this week!
Also just FYI she did say that if I wanted to keep my GRE score in with my application I could send an addendum for my application but I opted to just waive it. So that is that! Big sigh of relief, now off to bed. :loveya:
Still waiting myself to hear something on interviews.
I wish they would get rid of standardized testing all together. I am one of those that do horribly on standardized testing and i know there are many like me out there.
Luckily I didn't have to take the GRE since i have a Masters and I did grad school at the same school as undergrad, so i didn't need them to get into grad school - i guess i lucked out with the GREs all-around.
Hopefully we will hear something this week instead of next week. Good luck to everyone!!!

Rubypie - Are you saying the 3.25 GPA is the minimum for automatic interviews or for admission? Also, congrats on the GRE waiver
Thanks so much for the holla!! It was a great ceremony and I'm so glad to be done..... but now I have to study for NCLEX and get my resume together and apply for all those "non-existent" new grad jobs.... It's still GREAT to have it in the rear view mirror
Good luck to you ALL and it sounds like you will have a terrific cohort!

I'm really glad they're doing this for you and the others who have struggled with the test. I can see the test's value if you're going into a strongly academic graduate program (which is, after all, what the test is designed as a metric for) but for undergraduate nursing... I can see maybe the value of the critical thinking/maths half of it, but testing our vocabulary is hardly going to predict our success in a nursing program. I feel our perspicacity (that one's for you, JasonB!) is best demonstrated by our strong GPAs and personal statements, in the end.
(That being said, I'm also really glad they're keeping it in optionally this one last semester, cause I can use all the help I can get with my application! )
Do you think they make 70 offers or are they trying to fill 70 slots? If they're trying to fill 70 slots, they might actually select 80+.
I'm pretty sure it's 70 slots that they will fill, not just 70 offers. If they will continue to accept some people throughout the interview process as they have done in the past, I'm sure some people will decline those offers. Also, from what I've read in past threads, they have a ranked waitlist from which they accept people once they start getting everyone's final decisions/declines. It seems that they can pull anywhere from 20-30 people, obviously depending on how many people reject their admission offer. So even if you don't get admitted soon after your interview or the last interview date, but you at least make it to the waitlist, it seems like you'd still have a good chance of getting accepted.
Hope this helped calm people's nerves a bit (I just hope this info is accurate)! :)
Kebunt, that is what I took from it- that the 3.25 will mean interview automatically.
Thanks for everyone hearing me out about the GRE. I always do poorly on standardized tests. I am slow. But I'm smart gosh darn it! I did great on the practice tests from the GRE study help book but that's because I took longer than the 30 minute time allowed...

snoozie-Are you trying to get a job at Duke? I thought Duke grads are guaranteed employment upon graduation. Maybe I dreamed that-
HI EVERYONE!
I was stuck in the airport yesterday and missed out on all of the activity. :argue:
Lot's of stuff beginning to happen!!!
Ruby~ Glad they were able to waive the GRE for you! That is awesome news! I remain impressed by their approach to admissions.
Twois~ I'm a book nerd/photographer too!!
Carolina~ good recon work to get the final application numbers! 197 is amazing.
Looking forward to lots more chitter chatter today. :hpygrp:
AAAHHHH. I got an email this morning saying that they don't have *any* of my transcripts - all of which I paid rush processing on to get them there by Thanksgiving week - and all of which are listed in my application page as "Received"! So I'm hoping it's just a goof and this is the Universe testing my reaction to unexpected stress (the Universe is VERY fond of doing this)... I'm confident I got everything to them, I just did NOT expect to wake up this morning to check my email and start thinking, "what the heck happened to my transcripts??"
It's never simple, is it?? But that's okay. Just had to vent here. My friends are SICK of hearing about nursing school applications... at least you guys understand the stress!

197 applications is the best news I've heard in a while! That number's really not bad at all. I think that this is the first year that they accepted a Spring cohort. Maybe that took some of the pressure off Fall applications.

I love how we're all trying to dissect every little thing we hear! Talk about over-analyzing.
