Hello ALL!
I wanted to start a topic about ABSN program at CSULA for Summer 2018 and get some feedback about applying, stats, and more. I am looking to apply here and to other similar programs and I wanted feedback about your experiences.

@angie155 that's amazing! I thought she had already emailed you a rejection?!? A glimmer of hope is great![/quoteShe did but then I got this in the email:
"While you did not receive one of our immediate program offers, we would like to know if you are interested in being placed on the wait list for our summer 2018 ABSN program, based upon your interview and the quality of your submitted application materials."
Officially on the waitlist, guys! Hoping someone gives up their spot and that I'm next on the list! She didn't say why I was waitlisted but I'm guessing my low level of experience has played a big role in it. Keeping my fingers crossed for the next spot!!!
I think you're right that experience plays a huge role. I worked as a CNA for one year at a SNF and at a hospital since October. I felt like this would set me apart, but KH made a comment during my interview about how a lot of applicants had more experience than me. I also know someone with 99 on the TEAS and 4 years experience that did not even get an interview The whole admissions process is so subjective and frustrating. That said, all of you here seem really motivated and dedicated and I really hope it works out for you soon!
For those of you who have been admitted, are you planning on working? I'm trying to decide if I should work one or two days a week (12 hour shifts). With two days I can keep my benefits, but I also want to maintain good grades for NP school and stay sane :)

I think I'm going to decide after the first term to see if I can handle both. Hopefully I can handle working once a week.
Good luck to everyone on the waiting list!
I plan on working during the program, but I will cut my hours a lot once we start. I currently work as a hospice/home health LVN, and I think it's an emotionally rewarding job that affords a lot of flexibility for people like us who plan on going to school fulltime.
By the way, did KH mention which titers and/or boosters we need? On the paper she gave, it just says we can either turn in proof of vaccination OR titers. But from what I remember she also mentioned a few vaccines that also require titers, regardless if we git the actual vaccine. I'm not sure if I heard her right though. I was shakin in my boots the whole interview that it was hard to focus on the health requirements!

I'm also going to see how the studyload is before picking up a job. I'd love to work part time during the program but I want to make sure I can handle both and still stay sane, like you said!

In my interview she mentioned to get titers for all listed (MMR, Hep B, Varicella) and to complete them asap. She said receiving the immunization doesn't necessarily mean you're immune, so you have to get the titers as well!
I see. I got my Hep B series as a child but I wonder if we need to get the complete series before the program starts. I'm kinda worried if my titer shows negative because the Hep B series takes several months to complete. There's no way it can be done before the program starts
A booster of some sort may be sufficient if your titer results are low. Have you done them yet?
