ABSN Cal State San Marcos (CSUSM) Spring 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Just summited my application for the ABSN program at San Marcos for Spring 2020 last night! Thought I'd get a forum started for others who are applying as well instead of stalking all of the old forums. I took the TEAS a few days ago & am just waiting on some final transcripts to be sent to CSUSM.

Has anyone heard back if there was a 3rd wave?

Spoke to my counselor on Friday! She said unfortunately, there won't be a 3rd wave going out as they filled all spots.

I'm applying for nursing schools in the next year, so I've been looking through past message boards for what to expect. But just a random question, does CSUSM hold a white coat ceremony for their nursing students like the other CSU's? Whether it does or not doesn't affect my choice in applying, just curious LOL

Specializes in NICU.

I don't know if anyone still follows this thread, but I didn't get a response from any of the current ABSN students following the Summer 2020 thread, so I thought I would post it here as well for those of you who are already in (or have already taken) their first semester in the ABSN program:

Just curious what to expect with the first semester taking the "supporting courses". Is it one full day of lecture, like all three classes back to back? Or are they spaced out throughout the week? I'll be commuting from San Diego, so I'd like to get an idea of how many days a week I should expect to be on campus.

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but it's been over a year since I've taken a pre-nursing class so I'm afraid of being "rusty". Since we have a few months, should we be going over old anatomy/physiology notes, or should I just calm down?

Any helpful tips or anything you care to share about your first semester would be so appreciated!

It seems like the schedule can vary. Originally they were going to have two classes on one day, one on another, but we wound up having all three classes on separate days (3 hour classes, all of which wound up starting in the afternoon). I took nutrition at Palomar last semester, so I'm only taking anthropology and ethics. For those two classes you don't need any A&P knowledge. I can't speak for nutrition, but I don't think you would need to review A&P for that either.

Hey guys,

I got accepted to the Summer 2021 term and I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions that I have ?

-First, where are the clinicals located? Curious because I'm moving from LA and trying to decide where to live depending on the commute.

-Second, does every student do clinicals at the same location?

Thanks in advance!!?

Hi! Congrats on getting in! We actually just completed our first semester of clinicals. We were placed at either Hemet, Carlsbad, or Encinitas.

Honestly, a lot of stuff is in the air due to covid right now. We aren’t sure where we’ll be for the Spring semester clinicals, but I’ve heard of Hemet, Riverside and Balboa being options.

Every student does not do the clinicals at the same location. For the first semester, you typically go to a SNF, and subsequent semesters, you go to a hospital and I believe the location can change semester to semester so it’s never a guarantee you’ll be in the same place for two semesters.

For your first semester, you won’t have clinicals. A lot of students live in the San Marcos area, hope that helps!

Congrats!! ?  You are more than welcome to join my cohort on facebook if you have any other questions! We are cohort 38 ? we haven't started classes yet, but there's been some good Q & A in regards to complio submissions and what not!
