About to take the TEAS Exam????????

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello........I've been away for awhile, but glad to be back! I received my letter to take the TEAS Test (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Has anyone taken this exam? I'm wondering how much this test counts for when deciding who will be in the next nursing class? I purchased a study guide, but am curious if the test will be set up the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated .........thank you

I just took my TEAS test tonight, and am soooo glad it's done! The school that I'm going to for my LPN (provided they accept me into the program) uses it as one of the factors that they examine (others being the TABE test or prior college degree, whether or not you have CNA licensure, medical work history, etc.) The parts that threw me a bit, mainly because I haven't touched them in..oh, 20 years since high school, were metric conversions, scientific reasoning, and chemistry. And I'm still trying to figure out why a nursing school evaluation test had more questions about geology than human anatomy...

In any case, it wasn't that bad, but if it's been a while since you've been in school, get a study guide or visit the library and grab some Cliffs Notes books on subjects that you don't typically use day to day (I found a Cliffs Notes book of Biology that helped me remember what I learned way back in the stone ages).

How many questions were on the TEAS?

Around 200 -- three of the four tests were around 50 questions, and science was 30. But they have several versions of the exam, so there may be slightly more or slightly less.

:confused:Hi! I really want to know the TEAS test location near by Irvine. Anyone who know the sourthen california TEAS test location?Please....

Has anyone taken the TEAS exam recently? I am about to take it and don't feel so great about all the material that I have to know. How does the test compare to the practice exams in the book? All the material present in the book is it compatible to the TEAS actual test? I'm getting soo nervous about this test because i do poorly in standardized test. Someone please help!!

I just took the exam about 2 weeks ago and the reading, math, and english portions were very similiar to the ones in the book. However, the science doesn't really resemble whats in the study guide. Barely any anatomy questions, a few physics, chemistry and lots of general science. I took it 4 times and the last time I recieved a 89.4%. Did better each time! So good luck to you!

I took the exam about 2 months ago and received a 94.8%. The Reading and English parts are the same as the study guide. Honestly, I found it easier than the SAT or ACT exam. As for math, understand and know your ratios. Here is an example:

4 12

8 X

The simple trick is cross multiply and solve for X.

So, you problem then becomes 4X= 96

X= 24

As for algebra, it was basic.

You may run into problems such as:

Solve for X: 3X +9 = 12

Group like terms: 3X-9Y+5X-12Y=

Also, make certain to know metric systems and conversions. For example, how may oz are in 3 cups?

How many grams are in 3 Kilograms?

The issue with the math section is the amount of time given to complete the section. So, you have to work quickly. Back solve your problems. For example, if you have 3.934 X 1.22 =

You know the rules of multiplying decimals state that your answer must have the total number of decimal place of your product. So, your answer must have 5 decimal places (.934 and .22 ). If you have only one answer that have 5 places…don’t spend the time multiplying it out as it HAS TO BE the correct answer since the answer must follow the set of rules. So, what if there are two answers that have five decimal places? I multiply the first set of numbers, in this case 4 x 2, which is 8. So, I then look for the answer that have five decimal places and that ends with 8.

It’s these little tricks that will save you a lot of time!

Science:

There were only three questions pertaining to A&P. One I remember is which organ is responsible for producing insulin?

Most of the science is scientific reasoning. There were a lot of graphs and you had to answer the questions based upon the graph. All I can say for this section is DON’T overanalyze the data. There was one Geology question on the exam, so do an internet search for basic geology. You should be fine. As for Chemistry, I had to determine the number of neutrons, protons, and electrons for an element. I also had to determine which elements from the list that would have similar properties and/or characteristics. Remember the rule…if the elements are in the same “group”, they all have the same properties.

This is all I can remember, but I felt it was basic, so I would encourage you to NOT stress out about it. The night before, don’t study. Just relax and get a good night sleep.

Good luck to you!

i am also taking the TEAS exam in a few short days... I am on overload have been studying like there is no tomorrow! i took the online assessment and science is definitely a week spot for me =( does anyone remember any particular topics in the science section? the last science class i took was A&P in 2006, altho i am reading in various threads that there are not many anatomy questions  every other section i did really well on, but i am afraid that this science is really going to blow my chances at getting into to the LPN program... this may sound silly but i have been brushing up on some basic science skills on http://www.mansfieldct.org/schools/mms/staff/hand/

very basic but i am hoping it will stir up my memory! if anyone remembers any areas they were stuck on pls pass it own, i would be forever grateful :loveya:

Hi I was wondering where you purchased the teas study guide and How much you paid for it. I tried finding it on amazon but with no luck. thanks Deb

atitesting.com might be the only place to buy one unless you can find one used somewhere

You could always just go to Borders or Barnes&Noble and pick up one of the more general Nursing School Entrance Exams books. I bought the Kaplan one and that's all I studied and I ended up in the 99th percentile on my TEAS. I don't know how the price compares between what I did and the ATI version, though. But you wouldn't have to wait for shipping!! :)

I just took the TEAS test yesterday and all went very well. My program only requires you to get atleast a 67% which is way low, so that was a help when I went to take it. I bought the study guide and that helped but what really helped ALOT was the practice test on the ATI website. That practice test cost$30, you can take it twice and it guides you when you make a mistake. It explains why you made the mistake. The practice test was almost exactly like the real one. That's what helped me the most. The math had lots of percents; the science was the most difficult for me, study the earth, rock formations,& chem; the reading and eng parts were pretty easy, review sentence structure, lots of that. Overall I would say that you could probably pass without reviewing too much, alot was common sense, reading labels and following directions.
