I have appreciated all previous posts on this matter ,and just wanted to reach out and ask if anyone has taken the 2016 version (or other other recent versions) of the AANP FNP exam (as most of the other posts are a bit outdated). I am looking for any type of advice on this exam (regarding prep work, or even day of/week of advice. I am currently scheduled to take the exam at the end of this month (in two weeks).
As for prep work thus part I have purchased and completed the Fitzgerald Review, Read Leik's most recent book and done the corresponding questions in the back of the book, and have taken the AANP FNP practice exam on their website, only scoring a 72% (66% is passing on this exam). This of course made me a little more anxious than I already was. After taking the practice exam, I've realized my weak areas and plan to spend some time on those in the next two weeks.
Any other words of advice on this matter, are definitely welcome! Thank you in advance!!
Congrats on passing your exam! I am currently studying for mine and am concentrating on the Leik book, Leik question bank, Hollier books, as well as listening to Hollier CDs day and night. I also bought a bank of questions from Exam Edge but haven't really been concentrating on those as I feel they aren't the best. Did you happen to use Amelie Hollier's CDs and if so, did you feel that they helped prepare you for the exam? I just want to know if these sources are adequate enough. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks to everyone for your information and advice!!
I actually attended the Amelie webinar and feel that the predictor exams are worded harder than some of the test questions. I think Amelie is brilliant, but honestly, she gears her info towards our actual "practice" rather than this test. I studied Amelie, I studied Exam Edge (LOTS of Exam Edge), and I studied Leik. I think the more questions you do the better - and Leik will even tell you to take more than 1 review course and to apply for both exams. Good advice.
I passed AANP yesterday. It was a huge relief. What helped me were doing questions. There are apps you can buy. I bought three of them (Leik app, FNP mastery, and FNP pocket prep). It helped me familiarize disease conditions and treatments. I went over these few time. Good luck on your test!
The second exam I had was what I thought to be harder than the first - there are other comments on this site that have said the same - I don't think it's actually that they "raise the bar" but I think that I just was taken by surprise the first time that I didn't pass. I scored over 160 points higher on the second exam than I did on the first exam; but I went in there for the second test and could honestly say I don't know what more I could have done to prepare. I took 2 review courses and bought numerous exam edge questions, Leik app, Amelie's predictors. I spent a small fortune but knew the material FAR better the second time around. In all fairness, I was not feeling well and even may have had a fever the first time and that is absolutely NO WAY to walk into an exam of this nature. You have to be 100%. There are people that have taken these exams (AANP or ANCC) multiple times each and I just made up my mind that I wasn't going to be among them...so it almost has to be a full-time job going in to the prep for the exam if you want to assure yourself a passing score. There are people that scored in the 70's on Amelie's predictors that have had trouble with this test...I, for one, don't think it should be taken lightly in terms of preparing for it. I do know of one person who took the Adult NP exam and thought it was "easy" but he has been practicing and teaching for many years and wanted the certification before the opportunity for the Adult NP certification isn't offered any longer. Plus the guy is kind of "braggy" - if you understand what I mean...he may have had a harder time with the test but just didn't want to admit it. I got amazing grades in both my post-master's certificate program and my DNP program from a prestigious university and I'm telling you, this test is hard...STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!
