AANP, FNP 2016 Exam
I realize it is a bit of a delayed response, however, I did pass my first go and then proceeded to work 1 yr in Cardiology (which was a blast) prior to recently moving to the UK (for my husbands job). Now to figure out how to transfer my licensure over here ...Thank you all for your words of encouragement and advice. Ranking my study materials from most helpful to least: 1). Fitzgerald Review - Worth every penny. Got the MP3 version so I could play/replay the review on the go. Highly Recommend. 2). Leik - Very helpful. I felt a lot of the questions I was tested on were directly reflected in the book. 3). APEA Q Bank - Good to get into the mindset of the proper test format, yet least helpful in regards to review of test content. Once again, thank you to everyone for your encouragement and best of luck with your endeavors!! I know you can do it!!! :) -Jessica

US NP Seeking Licensure in UK
Hello All, Looking for insight into my current situation. I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner in the U.S. with a Master of Science in Nursing, and a little > 1 yr of experience working in Cardiology (as an NP). Prior to this, I worked as a Critical Care nurse (RN, BSN) for 3 years. As of four months ago, I relocated to Lakenheath RAFB with my husband to the U.K., (husband is active duty Air Force). Unfortunately, there are no open positions on base for Nurse Practitioners. Thus, I have researched and somewhat understand the process of transferring my US nursing license to the UK after reviewing the NMC site: Trained outside the EU/EEA, yet, have a few remaining questions. Are there particular recommended study prep courses for the U.K. nursing boards or Nurse Practitioner boards? If so, which ones (I used Kaplan prep in the U.S. for my BSN, and the Fitzgerald Review/Leik Book/APEA questions for my Family Nurse Practitioner boards)? Additionally, once I have attained my RN licensure with NMC, I am seeking clarification on how to proceed with transferring my U.S. NP licensure to the U.K.. What are some of the things I would have to do there to get certified to work there as a Nurse Practitioner? Would I need to go back to school at all? Or resit my boards? Please, any and all insight is appreciated! TIA :) -Jessica

AANP, FNP 2016 Exam
Thank you, I did end up passing and it's definitely a weight off my shoulders. You'll be next!! smile emoticon The test was exactly as I anticipated, and perhaps even easier (only because I thoroughly prepared). I studied for really only a month straight (I felt ready after 2 weeks, however). I did take the Fitzgerald course, and opted for the MP3 version with tons of online resources as well for the course. If possible, I strongly suggest taking Fitzgerald perhaps a month prior to testing. She does a phenomenal job tying all the information together in a understandable fashion and her review is also very thorough. I also LOVED Maria Codina Leik's book, "Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Intensive Review: Fast Facts and Practice Questions, Second Edition." Its more of a quick and dirty review over most disease processes and offers over 600 questions in the back. I also purchased the online question bank from APEA (both assessment and patient management), all questions provide rationale for answers which helped to reinforce information! I also took the practice exam from AANP (this offers old retired questions from the exam, and I just wanted to see how they wrote the test and more of what to expect), and took the predictor exam from APEA (one week prior to testing) and it predicted I'd pass but it also pinpointed my weaker areas which i proceeded to study for a few days after that. All in all it was an expensive, stressful and very time consuming process but definitely wouldn't change any part of my study plan. Sorry for the ridiculously long message, but I know what a stressful process it can be. I did find Leik's book to be extremed out of date as far as recommended guidelines, however had phenomenal factual information that was very helpful with the exam. For those outdated guidelines I substituted what I had learned from the Fitzgerald Review, to update those guidelines. Good luck, it's easy to become overwhelmed but you can do it!!

new NP cant find a job
Wow, these posts are exactly what I needed! Three months post-graduation, unemployed, and I'm still applying to job after job. I have interviewed for 2 positions and ultimately lose out to someone with more experience, (it also doesn't help that I'm young (27), and have a babyface making me look 18)... How exactly am I to attain this experience if no one is willing to take a chance on a new grad? I'm trying not to get discouraged by the process, so this message board is precisely what I needed. I'm hoping at some point and time, an employer will be willing to take a chance on me...

AANP, FNP 2016 Exam
I have appreciated all previous posts on this matter ,and just wanted to reach out and ask if anyone has taken the 2016 version (or other other recent versions) of the AANP FNP exam (as most of the other posts are a bit outdated). I am looking for any type of advice on this exam (regarding prep work, or even day of/week of advice. I am currently scheduled to take the exam at the end of this month (in two weeks). As for prep work thus part I have purchased and completed the Fitzgerald Review, Read Leik's most recent book and done the corresponding questions in the back of the book, and have taken the AANP FNP practice exam on their website, only scoring a 72% (66% is passing on this exam). This of course made me a little more anxious than I already was. After taking the practice exam, I've realized my weak areas and plan to spend some time on those in the next two weeks. Any other words of advice on this matter, are definitely welcome! Thank you in advance!!
