AANP Certification Exam

Well, I took the AANP certification exam today and failed. It was the most horrible feeling in the world.

I took the Barkley live review seminar. It was three jam packed days and they sent us home with a notebook of everything covered. They made a very big deal out of stating they have a 99% passing rate for the exam if you know the material they covered.

Well, I knew it backwards and forwards, practically memorized the entire notebook. And to be honest, I would have done just as well if I had never even opened the thing. It literally only helped me with about two questions. I am so disappointed.

It's so nice to be in the 1% group. Now I don't know what to do. I guessed at probably at LEAST half the questions. It was very hard! What's bad is you don't know which questions you got right or wrong.

I was not nervous at all so it was not test anxiety. It's like I just knew absolutely nothing. The whole test was clinically based but the answer selections were just so confusing.

If it weren't for student loans to pay back I think I would not even bother taking it again.

I'm open to suggestions on how to study now. I actually thought I was well prepared when I went to take the test but obviously NOT!

I'm going to go sit in my recliner and bask in my depression now!

That is wonderful Dixie. Congratulations!

It is great to hear about you passing and what you used for study materials!

thanks again!

Hi dixcie,

I failed my test today for aanp. How long did it take you to be able to take the test again? did the CE credits helps you at all? THEY told me I can go ahead and do the CEs but they recommend to wait for the test result to see your weakness, etc. However, I am soooo stressed out right now. Did getting the test result helps you at all?

Don't wait. It tells you absolutely nothing and is of no help at all. Start doing the CE's right away to get it over with. They might help with the test but honestly, not much.

I reapplied immediately and took the test again in about six weeks from the first one.

Hey Dixcie,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I can't sit still so I've been reading the post. On the AANP, is states that I have to take CEs according to my test score weakness. Is that true? can I take any CEs now and sent my application in 2 days? how long was the process before you got the ok letter to retake it again?

Hi Lovely,

just a friendly suggestion. Get the Leik book and do the questions in that book.

It helped me.

All the best success for your next try!

Dixiecup,

How did you study for the retake? can you give me suggestions pls. thanks

Hi Lovely, I also took the exam on Friday. I think I failed because I think I read you have "not passed". But I was so anxious! Now people are telling me that it says pass or fail. You could help me if you could tell me whether it said not passed or failed? any help would be appreciated! Jackie

Rosebud1981,

Several other members have posted on threads that the screen paragraph reads "passed" or "failed". Try checking the AANP website, you may be able to enter your testing i.d. number, etc. and have the test status come up (unless of course it says pending, and I don't know what that would mean -- maybe that the computer has downloaded the test results yet). I know my results were available immediately when I logged into the ANCC website and showed as "certified". When you walk out of the Prometric testing center for the ANCC exam, they actually hand you a piece of paper that says "passed" - not sure what it would have said if I hadn't passed. Best wishes.

I know it says that but when you actually get the paper that tells you your weak spots it is very vague. There are free CE's to take on the ANNP website that turn out to be just enough to get the required amount. I just took all the free ones, sent them in and it was fine.

It was about three weeks before I got the ok to test again.
