AANP or ANCC?

My preceptor brought up the subject of which organization I was going to be licensed with. A friend said that since I was ANP I only had one choice. Pulling them both up I see that I do in fact have a choice. So who is it? I've seen a thread or two bemoaning ANCC. I can't afford to wait, I'm behind the curve already. My preceptor said that some states don't accept one or the other. I'm looking to pull up stakes and go west to seek my fortune.:D Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, New Mexico, Alaska. Input would be greatly appreciated.

I took the ANCC, they were pretty much on the ball for me

So all my years of nursing school, does not compare to the frustration that I have from trying to apply for this test. I just feet like some how I was not getting the memo. I graduated Dec 5 and I still have not receieved my test authorization. It's mostly to blame my director for not returning her part in a timely manner. After weeks of calls, e-mails, and visits from myself and other students I finally got the material needed on Jan. 31! A classmate just called last night to say that ANCC is holding up her application because even though should had an official sealed transcript, since it has "issued to student" (she picked it up from the registrar to be included in her packet) they will not honor her transcript and she has to wait until the recieve another. It has already been seven weeks since she sent it off. Of course I did the same and I just went ahead and had another transcript sent just in case I have any problems.

Now I wish I would have just done the AANP. I just found out the ANCC has resiprosity and if you have a certification from AANP all you have to do is give ANCC your money and you are certified in both. Does anyone know if AANP has the same? I didn't see any specific info and I just maybe overlooking it.

Good afternoon fellow NPs 2b,

Today is the SIXTH week from taking ANCC, nothing in the mail. My friends warned me it would be AT LEAST six weeks. So, I'm hoping today or tomorrow to have the "official notification" to turn into the state. I have everthing ready to hand deliver to my SBON. What a process. I'm glad the NCLEX was not this tough. But...

Be glad you don't work for the federal government. Now, once I get my state card, I'll have to jump thru their hoops as well! Not to mention, the military portion of it.

Good luck everybody, I know this is frustrating, but imagine in six months, where we might be! :yeah:

Just to refesh:

Also another consideration is recertification: So far my perceptions of AANP recertification process is pretty bad.

1) Snide people on the phone

2) Vague answers to questions

3) Even within the 6 month range for recertification but I have never received the packet they said was in the mail.

4) Hey but they are friendly when it comes to confirming payment...

I would like to hear other folks recertification stories.....

Now:

Certification runs out in 3 days:

Only answer I get from them is the same thing:YOU ARE IN THE FINAL STAGES AT THIS TIME. AANP (yep it was all typed in capitols)...

They were more than happy to take my money in January.....

** Just something to consider when doing business with AANP **

Try loging into the ANCC web site, then ordering a verification of certification. It might be extra $ but it might get you confirmation of certification faster.
