Wow - what a wonderful legacy and what a role model! Thanks so much for sharing. Space nurse - do you by chance live near Chicago? Do you have any idea of Ms Chism's touring schedule? I sure would like to hear her speak. What inspiration! Thanks again.

Amen to that sister. We should all heed that lesson. Thanks for posting spacenurse.
My Dad grew up in Chicago as did my husband. We have family who have met her.
I met her when she was in California in 2004. She is truly inspiring. I was in tears.
Her understanding of our history as nurses, women, and Americans is amazing for a young person.
Just google her to find out more.
The CEU classes where she will probably be one of the speakers will be announced here - http://www.calnurses.org/nnoc/

Association drops 37 of hospital's representatives
June 23, 2004
More than 600 of Stroger Hospital's 894 registered nurses have signed a petition protesting their union's removal of 37 elected representatives.
In a demonstration near Ogden and Damen Avenues by the hospital, about 120 registered nurses used their lunch break Tuesday to chant and raise picket signs.
"We were elected by the people and we were removed by the people downtown," said Martese Chism, who formerly was second vice president of the Illinois Nurses Association at Stroger Hospital. "They removed us without due process."

June 2004???????????? Old news.
Not “news”. That’s why it is not posted on the “News” forum.
“A Powerful Legacy for an Illinois RN” is the story of an inspirational nurse working for the health of us all.
A true leader!
This RN is taking risks and speaking out publicly to inform and to improve. It is a bit of the history of the RN whose story is in the current issue of a magazine. Please refer to original post.
