A Nurse aspiring lawyer

Specialties Legal

When i was still a student nurse, I studied so hard because i really want to become a registered nurse in the mere future. When i graduated BsN I studied even harder and pray to God all night in order for me to pass the board exam. I passed the licensure examination with a high board rating and I was so lucky to be employed in a government hospital with reasonable wage.

After i had accomplished my dreams to be a professional nurse and helped my fellow countrymen, I suddenly realized being a nurse isn't my dream profession., I want to become a lawyer.

But i am afraid because i might not be an effective lawyer and no firm will hire me. Please give me some tips to be an efficient lawyer. Are there plenty of high paying vacant job as lawyers nowadays? Please help me. Thank you. God Bless

There are few positions for new attorneys.

My sister is an attorney. Did very well in undergrad & law school. Excellent references from clerkships & school. Passed the bar in 2 states first try and had difficulty attaining the first job at first (after 6+ months of searching required relocation from Southern CA to northern CA) but persevered, budgeted well, and now 10 years later is an award winning, successful prosecutor.

Why not look at the American Association of Nurse Attorneys to see if you can get in touch with someone in your area that can perhaps enlighten you to this legal specialty and prospects. . http://www.taana.org

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

There is s surplus of lawyers now as well...I would seek out a forum for lawyers or students studying law. the TAANA would be a good place to start.

Specializes in Pedi.

I think this particular forum is geared more towards Legal Nurse Consultants than it is towards Nurse Attorneys so I don't know that there necessarily IS anyone here who can tell you how to be an efficient lawyer. Have you taken the LSAT? That would be your first step into getting into law school.

Specializes in Law, Operating Room.

If you believe your calling is to be a lawyer, go for it. Work hard in law school to learn all you can, make good grades and find the job that is right for you. Nurses bring a unique perspective to law, especially health law and medical malpractice law. If you want to be a lawyer because you want a "high paying job" you might be disappointed. Law is a demanding and stressful profession. It is also very satisfying and fulfilling. And sometimes it also happens to pay well. But, like nursing, salary potential should not be the primary driver.

im a BSN trained RN as well planning to go to law school as well! Im preparing for my LSAT now!Have you decided to venture into it?
