A name for Computer on Wheels

Nurses General Nursing

We are no longer able to use the acronym "COWs" for computers on wheels. Does anyone have a name they use for computers on wheels other than cows. Patient offended by nurse using this word, thought they were talking about her. So we need to call the cows something else. Any suggestions. Thanks alot.:nurse:

That is why we don't call them COWS it wasn't our hospital that it happened at, but apparently she heard someone in the hall talking about a cow and thought it was her they were talking about.

We call them WOW's.

Sigh, if they don't like COWS, how about Portable Information Generators. PIGs. :lol2:

Personally, I don't believe this. Way to easy to simply explain the acronym to the patient. This was obviously some kind of admin decision. Some over-paid, possibly pompous, Emily Post etiquette conscious executive brain decided that it was inappropriate and unprofessional to call them COWs.

If it is so very easy to get things changed nationally by one patient complaint...

How about Moo-COW?

We actually got rid of our COWs. They were a dismal failure in our hosptial. The batteries we had never held their charge for some reason. We'd get maybe 1/2 hour our of them. Halfway through charting, the battery woudl die.

So we just started calling them "Worthless piece of ****". Most of found our COWs too cumbersome to use - you'd have your meds in one hand, The MAR tucked under an arm, and guiding the blood pressure machine with the other. Then with your third arm, you guided the COW, open doors with your fourth arm, and (recently) use the alcohol cleanse on your 5th and 6th hands. Of course, if you pt had more than just oral meds, you may be using your 7th hand to carry insulin or lovenex syringe, or maybe the glucometer. And if the pt was in isolation - will through your hands up , give up and just go home!

We changed the name of the Computer on Wheels (COW's) to Workstations on Wheels (WOW's) The organization did not want to affend anyone.
