A bit bummed :(

So this fall I'm starting with my pre-reqs for nursing.

Someone of relation is a nurse and talks negative the whole time through my excitement of starting classes. Like he says, "nursing sucks", and let's see who can get their RN first. Like he hates nursing so much yet you want to go on for your RN. And now all of a sudden it seems like he wants to because I am going for my ADN. He's a A#*!@&l anyways so it's actually normal for him.

But yeah, I think, If I worked 7 days a week(no joke) I'd probably be hating my job too! And I do understand that it's hard to find a job these days but it is for any career choice! This actually just makes me want to do it TEN TIMES more and I want to do soo well in school that he's like "woah"!

A lot of times I think he's just really competitive because he also likes to talk about how much he makes $23 an hour as an LPN.

So anyways, I just don't understand people who want to put you down for what you want to do.

I guess this just was a little vent. And it helped.

Awww :hgu: That can be the worst. Congratulations on your choice to go into nursing! Good luck on your pre-req's as well. Once you start school, you'll honestly be so busy w/the courses that his comments won't matter one bit to you.

You won't have time to engage w/him really. And even if he does decide to start with you, he may get weeded out so quickly his head'll spin!

:clown:

Thank you. It sucks because this is my moms husband. Good thing I'm old enough and don't have to live with him!

Thank you again! :o

Oh don't let it get you down. I know when I decided to go for nursing a lot of people in family tried to change my mind. My aunt's a nurse and many others in my family are in the medical field and were very very negative about it. But I will say once I told them my mind was made up they were more supportive. As far as the LPN goes well he may be a little jealous or something who knows? I know I was irritated when my sister-in-law decided suddenly she wanted to go back to school and be a nurse and then she actually tried to take 5 classes a time so she could apply to ns before me! well she failed out but it was very annoying because my in-laws think the sun and moon set at her feet, so......

To the OP: He's threatened because now you are stepping into his territory and you may be way more successful as a nurse than him. :D

Go for it, and do well. Don't respond to the negativity, instead let if fuel you to go after that career harder. When you get your RN be prepared for him to challenge any health-related thoughts you may share (since your studies are more recent).

Before he knows it you've gotten your BSN, then your MSN, and he will really be upset even more. LOL, who knows. But, stay focused. You have a goal to reach.

Oh I bet she felt stupid! That's CRAZY!! Yeah when I went there today the first thing he said was "Let's see who gets done first". He my STEP_DAD to top it off. Idiot! Then when I was leaving as we passed each other when I went outside he looked at me and said "Nursing" while shaking his head!!!!!!!:devil::devil: :flamesonb

worry only about your own grades and own battles you'll have in the future with school. let him do all the talk he wants to do, don't engage in the 'talk' about who gets there first, because getting your rn after your name will show him you were serious.

i have a relative that is more of a show off than a real good student. she is always talking about how of a straigh a student she is, and this and that, and all i've done is listened to her as by listening i found out she knew little of the things that need to be done to be in the program. there are things to get done, tests to take and she knew nothing.

now that she got in ns, fixing to start in august, i am glad she won't be in the same semester as me. i will be a semester ahead of her, and could really care less about her or her grades. i just really dislike people that talk to show off rather than to do regular conversation.

i'm glad i really don't have to interact with her, as she is my fil's step daughter.

i understand when you say that you want to do better, but make sure you're doing it for yourself.

You two sound like my grandmother and her sister. My grandmother died in 1976 and my great aunt still complains that, "When I ordered a peanut butter sandwich, SHE would order a peanut butter sandwich!!"
